How do you define non believer? I read posts regarding non believers fairly often in the forums and just don’t understand the term as it seems to be presented so often on caf.
I suppose the meaning would differ depending on the context. Are you referring to a non-Catholic, a non-Christian, an atheist, an agnostic or an apostate? Are you referring to someone who doesn’t believe in Christ in general?
I suppose it IS hard to understand the term if no context is given. In general, most of the time it refers to agnostics and atheists. It would be helpful if, when using the term, folks clarified WHAT they are non believing in. A non believing Catholic could very well still believe in God and Christ while a non believing Christian may still believe in God, etc. if confused, just ask!
No. This is a Catholic forum and Catholics know what we believe in. We have something called the CREDO. This is what we believe. If you don’t, then you are an unbeliever. It is really quite simple, actually.
Credo in unum Deum, Patrem omnipotentem…
You’d have to ask the poster, case by case, if his meaning is unclear. There can be unbelievers (or non-believers) in climate change, for example. It’s much the same as doubter or skeptic.
I suppose then without the proper context my answer to someone asking if I’m a believer or not should be “that depends”. Depends on what the asker believes a believer is or rather a non believer is.
