How about list of “Catholic” churches that disclaim or are not under the authority of Benedict XVI.

I think I know a few:

Polish National Catholic
Old Catholic
Mexican Catholic

Hhmm…well, the whole lot of schismatic parishes and churches would fall into that category I think…

I agree. Sadly, I think the list would be too large to populate.

Society of Saint Pius the Tenth.
The Liberal Catholic Church.
Catholic Church in America (not to be confused with the USCCB ;).

Two more obvious ones I forgot to add were the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox.

The Traditional Anglican Communion and some Episcopalians (the Anglo-Catholics) also consider themsleves to be “Catholics”.

I have a feeling that this list can get really, really long…

Non-Catholic Catholics…that’s a big contradiction! 😛

But I guess there are some out there!

Maybe I need to clarify a bit. I’m looking for Churches with the name “Catholic” (from the phone book, IRS, etc.), but are not in union with Pope Benedict XVI.

Reason I’m asking is I saw a post on CA forums by a member of the Polish Catholic Church, who (from what I could gather) thought he was part of the pope’s flock.

Among the “non-Catholic Catholics” are also colleges and universities who claim to be Catholic but instead publicly dissent from RCC teaching.

We could also list the US senators and House reps that claim to be Catholic, but who speak out and vote against the RCC teachings.

Unfortunately, these 2 lists would also be very long.

And, I see that you are looking only for churches.

The Polish Catholic Church generally refers to the Catholic Church in Poland which is in union with His Holiness. The Polish National Catholic Church is a church, though despite its name, originally had little to do with Poland at all except for the fact that its descendents here in America started the PNCC.

Can’t the original Catholic Church just copyright the name and stop non-Catholic churches form using the name.

I think we can come up with some documentation that we were using the name first.

My bad. I got it correct in the original but butchered it in my last post.

I am a polish National Catholic. We believe that the pope is a bishop the first among first in which Christ picked to lead the church on earth. He is a very holy man but we don’t believe he is a infallible leader.

Neither do we. We believe he is infallible in matters of faith and in morals and when speaking ex-cathedra (for the whole Church). 😉

Hello chriswilliam,

Was it your post I saw where your church charged you 350$ for a funeral? If so, I am sorry for your loss and any problems with your church.

I didn’t realize the PNC considered herself in any way affilliated with our pope.

The Sedevacantism Churches, like the Palmarian catholic Church, the “true” catholic Church, Sedevacantism, New Church of The Holy Heart Of Jesus. The last one is very tiny and is led by a self proclaimed anti-pope.

Where’s the contradiction ?

It’s pretty obvious!

That’s like saying, “I’M NOT ANGRY!” with a red face and yelling! Therefore, “I’m Catholic” when you don’t even show you’re Catholic, make sense?

it’s too early…
