What is your favorite prayer?

I have several. This is one of them

ACT OF CONSECRATION
TO THE MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD

Blood of Jesus, inebriate me!
O Jesus, my Beloved Savior,
ever present in the Tabernacle,
to be the strength,
the joy and the food of souls,
I come to consecrate myself to Thy Precious Blood,
and to pledge Thee my sincere love and fidelity.
Pierced with sorrow at the remembrance of Thy sufferings,
the contemplation of the Cross,
and the thought of the outrages
and contempt lavished by ungrateful souls
upon Thy dear Blood,
I long, O my Jesus,
to bring joy to Thy Heart,
and to make Thee forget my sins,
and those of the whole world,
by consecrating my body and soul to Thy service.
I desire, my Jesus, to live henceforth,
only by Thy Blood and for Thy Blood.
I now choose It as my greatest treasure
and the dearest object of my love.

O merciful Redeemer,
deign to regard me as a perpetual adorer
of Thy Most Precious Blood,
and be pleased to accept my prayers,
my deeds and my sacrifices,
as so many acts of reparation and love.

Heavenly Wine,
giver of purity and strength,
pour down upon my soul.
Make of my heart a living chalice
from which grace shall constantly flow
on those that love Thee,
and especially on poor sinners that offend Thee.
Teach me to honour Thee
and to make Thee honoured by others.
Give me power to draw to Thee cold and hardened hearts,
that they may feel how infinitely
Thy consolations surpass those of the world.

O Blood of my Crucified Saviour,
detach me from the world,
and the spirit of the world.
Make me love suffering and sacrifice,
after the example of St. Catherine of Sienna,
who loved Thee so much
[and whom I choose again today as my special patroness].

O Precious Blood,
be my strength amid the trials and struggles of exile.
Grant that at the hour of death
I may be able to bless Thee
for having been the comfort
and the sanctification of my soul,
before becoming, in Heaven,
the everlasting object of my love and praise.

Saints of God,
who owe thy happiness to the Blood of Jesus;
Angelic spirits,
who sing Its glory and power,
august Virgin,
who to It owest the privileges
of thine Immaculate Conception
and Divine Maternity,
help me to pay to the Precious Blood of my Redeemer
a perpetual homage of adoration,
reparation and thanksgiving.

Amen.

CONFITEOR Deo omnipotenti, beatae Mariae semper Virgini, beato Michaeli Archangelo, beato Ioanni Baptistae, sanctis Apostolis Petro et Paulo, et omnibus Sanctis, quia peccavi nimis cogitatione, verbo et opere: mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. Ideo precor beatam Mariam semper Virginem, beatum Michaelem Archangelum, beatum Ioannem Baptistam, sanctos Apostolos Petrum et Paulum, et omnes Sanctos, orare pro me ad Dominum Deum nostrum.
Amen.

I’d have to say the Our Father. Christ gave it to us and I think it is the perfect prayer, it covers everything, perfectly. 👍

If it was the only prayer we had, it would suffice for all our needs. You could spend your lifetime in meditation on this single prayer and never come to the end of it’s riches. :yup:

And if I say it a hundred times a day, it may be repetitious, but never vain! 😉

My second choice is the Rosary, and my third choice is the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. Repetitious? yes. Vain? not a chance! 😉

Here are a few of my favorites:

Almighty God, unto whom all hearts are open, all desires
known, and from whom no secrets are hid: Cleanse the
thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love thee, and worthily magnify thy
holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against thee
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved thee with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of thy Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in thy will,
and walk in thy ways,
to the glory of thy Name. Amen.

O God, who makest us glad by the yearly remembrance of
the birth of thy only Son Jesus Christ: Grant that as we joyfully
receive him for our Redeemer, so we may with sure
confidence behold him when he shall come to be our Judge;
who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, one
God, world without end. Amen.

Almighty and everlasting God, who hatest nothing that thou
hast made and dost forgive the sins of all those who are
penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that
we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our
wretchedness, may obtain of thee, the God of all mercy,
perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our
Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

O God, who for our redemption didst give thine
only-begotten Son to the death of the cross, and by his
glorious resurrection hast delivered us from the power of
our enemy: Grant us so to die daily to sin, that we may
evermore live with him in the joy of his resurrection; through
Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth
with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Thou only art immortal, the creator and maker of mankind;
and we are mortal, formed of the earth, and unto earth shall
we return. For so thou didst ordain when thou createdst me,
saying, “Dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.” All
we go down to the dust; yet even at the grave we make
our song: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
Give rest, O Christ, to thy servant(s) with thy saints,
where sorrow and pain are no more,
neither sighing, but life everlasting.

Either the poetic:

**Nada te turbe, nada te espante todo se pasa,
Dios no se muda, la paciencia todo lo alcanza,
quien a Dios tiene nada le falta sólo Dios basta.

** or the desperate:

**Lord! Save me!

**or I suppose I like the Anima Christi, though I don’t say it much:

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within Thy wounds hide me.
Suffer me not to be separated from Thee.
From the malignant enemy, defend me.
In the hour of my death, call me.
And bid me come to Thee.
That with Thy saints I may praise Thee.

***Forever and ever. Amen

*I guess I’m on a roll here. I truly love chanting this from the Office:

Bless the Lord, all you works of the Lord.
Praise and exalt him above all forever.
Angels of the Lord, bless the Lord.
You heavens, bless the Lord.
All you waters above the heavens, bless the Lord.
All you hosts of the Lord, bless the Lord.
Sun and moon, bless the Lord.
Stars of heaven, bless the Lord.

Every shower and dew, bless the Lord.
All you winds, bless the Lord.
Fire and heat, bless the Lord.
Cold and chill, bless the Lord.
Dew and rain, bless the Lord.
Frost and chill, bless the Lord.
Ice and snow, bless the Lord.
Nights and days, bless the Lord.
Light and darkness, bless the Lord.
Lightnings and clouds, bless the Lord.

Let the earth bless the Lord.
Praise and exalt him above all forever.
Mountains and hills, bless the Lord.
Everything growing from the earth, bless the Lord.
You springs, bless the Lord.
Seas and rivers, bless the Lord.
You dolphins and all water creatures, bless the Lord.
All you birds of the air, bless the Lord.
All you beasts, wild and tame, bless the Lord.
You sons of men, bless the Lord.

O Israel, bless the Lord.
Praise and exalt him above all forever.
Priests of the Lord, bless the Lord.
Servants of the Lord, bless the Lord.
Spirits and souls of the just, bless the Lord.
Holy men of humble heart, bless the Lord.
Hananiah, Azariah, Mishael, bless the Lord.
Praise and exalt him above all forever.

Let us bless the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Let us praise and exalt him above all forever.
Blessed are you, Lord, in the firmament of heaven.
Praiseworthy and glorious and exalted above all forever.

**I’d better press submit, or I’ll think of another one.😛

Here’s one I like; it’s modeled on a litany I saw on the Internet and forms part of my daily devotions.

Lord, have mercy
Christ, have mercy
Lord, have mercy
Christ, hear us
Christ, graciously hear us
God the Father of Heaven, have mercy
God the Son, Redeemer of the World, have mercy
God the Holy Spirit, Enlightener of our souls, have mercy
Holy Trinity, One God, have mercy and hear

Because You are infinite love, I love You O Lord
Because You first loved me…
Because You have commanded me to…
With all my heart…
With all my soul…
With all my mind…
With all my strength…
Above all honors and possessions…
Above all joys and pleasures…
Above myself and all I have or hope to have…
Above all creation, whether in heaven or on earth…
Only for Yourself…
Because You are the Sovereign Good…
Because You are infinitely worthy…
Because You are infinitely perfect…
Without hope of reward…
Even had You not promised me Heaven…
Even had You not delivered me from Hell…
Even when I stagger beneath my cross…
In joy and in despair…
In sickness and in health…
In prosperity and in adversity…
In riches and in poverty…
In life and in death…
In time and in eternity…

O Lord, may it please You to perfect my love, that I may be a pure fount of gratitude to sing your praises all eternity, and become a sacred temple consecrated to your greater glory. Amen.

Sort of like wedding vows on steroids, come to think of it…

I usually include my intercessions and the Lord’s Prayer immediately afterwards.

I love the Our Father and Apostles Creed! I’m not real big on saying “made out” prayers (I like saying whatever comes to my mind, at the time) but I will say that the Our Father and Apostles Creed are REALLY good, especially if you say them slowly and really concentrate on what you’re saying. 😃

For me it is the Lord’s Prayer, the prayer that Jesus taught us. I say lots of other prayers, from prayer books, from the Bible (especially from the Psalms), and prayers in my own words, but the Lord’s Prayer is one that is particularly special to me.

I say a few versions of the Memorare prayer that I like.

Here’s a Memorare to the Sacred Heart:

Remember, O most kind Jesus, that none who have had recourse to Your Sacred Heart, implored its assistance, or called for mercy, have ever been abandoned. Filled, and animated by this same confidence, O divine Heart, Ruler of all hearts, I fly to You, and oppressed beneath the weight of my sins, I prostrate myself before You. Despise not Your unworthy child, but grant me, I pray, an entrance into Your Sacred Heart. Sustain me in all my combats and be with me now, and at all times, but especially in the hour of my death. 0 gracious Jesus! 0 amiable Jesus! 0 loving Jesus!

❤️ ❤️

I like some of the prepared prayers, like Our Father, but my favorite prayer is one that I say straight from my heart.

Why, the serenity prayer, of course. 😃

Lord, give me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference. 👍

I also love the Lord’s Prayer, since Jesus myself taught us that in the Bible. 🙂

One of my favorite prayers is very simple. Usually said when words and thoughts are tangled.

Breathe in slowly.

Jesus.

Breathe out slowly.

Mercy.

Repeat as necessary:)

I learned this from a woman, a speaker at a retreat, who is a quadraplegic. As an adult she got in a freak accident, I believe it was about a week before her wedding.

As she lay in bed, unable to move, recovering from the injuries that were recoverable, she would start to pray and words would tangle and jumble together, fear would set in. The only thing that would give her the peace of our Lord was the above prayer.

She didn’t know, how, what, why of anything. She just relied on Him for mercy and peace.

The Hail Mary. 🙂
I like to pray for the Suffering Souls at odd moments, sometimes using St. Faustina’s prayer, sometimes with the hail Mary.
I pray the Rosary and the Divine Mercy chaplet.

As a Catholic, here are my favorite daily prayers, and I am trying not to skip any of them note: I am trying, sometimes I couldn’t pray with all prayers. I could If I were not a lay person 🙂 There are so distracting things in life )
  • Novena of Sacred Heart of Jesus
  • The Chaplet Divine Mercy
  • Daily Bible readings
  • The prayers of St. Bridget - remembrance of Jesus’ Passion
  • The Rosary: Joyful Mysteries, Sorrowful Mysteries, Glorious Mysteries, and Luminous Mysteries.
  • Novena of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel
  • Prayers for the dying and the Holy Souls in Purgatory
  • St. Michael the Archangel’s prayer
  • Guardian Angel for her protection and reminding me of praying
  • Read the Diary of St. Faustina and learn the humble life of hers and how she trusts the Mercy of Jesus
  • St. Rita prayer - asking her intercession for me.

The Ignatian Contemplatio

Take Lord, receive, all my liberty, my memory, understanding, my entire will, all that I have and all that I posess. You have given all to me, not I return it to you, dispose of it wholly according to your will. Give me only your love and your grace, that is enough for me. Amen.

Quite a challenge at the beginning of the day, but I love the passion of it.

And, since I’m Irish, St Patrick’s Breastplate, the shortened form of which is:
I arise today
Through the strength of heaven;
Light of the sun,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of the wind,
Depth of the sea,
Stability of the earth,
Firmness of the rock.

I arise today
Through God’s strength to pilot me;
God’s might to uphold me,
God’s wisdom to guide me,
God’s eye to look before me,
God’s ear to hear me,
God’s word to speak for me,
God’s hand to guard me,
God’s way to lie before me,
God’s shield to protect me,
God’s hosts to save me
From snares of the devil,
From temptations of vices,
From every one who desires me ill,
Afar and anear,
Alone or in a mulitude.

I summon today all these powers between me and evil,
Against every cruel merciless power that opposes my body and soul,
Against incantations of false prophets,
Against black laws of pagandom,
Against false laws of heretics,
Against craft of idolatry,
Against spells of wizards,
Against every knowledge that corrupts our body and soul.
Christ shield me today
Against poison, against burning,
Against drowning, against wounding,
So that reward may come to me in abundance.

Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks of me,
Christ in the eye that sees me,
Christ in the ear that hears me.

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through a belief in the Threeness,
Through a confession of the Oneness
Of the Creator of creation.

Well, I have to admit a great fondness for the Lorica of St. Patrick but I’m more apt to sing that in the truck when I am alone, but I have to admit when it comes down to brass tacks, it is:

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me, a sinner.
