i for one know that Brazilian Catholics coming here in the south have converted to many of these protestants congregations and have become anti Catholics. they have brought these pastores wiht a 6 month formation to attend to Catholics. since they dont speak English they all go to their churches. they take advantage of the fact that Catholics imigrants are scared and insecure and they make many promises to them.In the past, some non-Catholic Christian churches made a special effort to contact recent Catholic immigrants with the stated goal of bringing them into their own churches. Does anyone know if they are doing the same thing with the new Catholic immigrants today?
i agree taht the CC is providing all the good works but is no evangelizing these people.yes aggressively and with massive funding from their national bodies, it is the major reason for losing Catholics here. fundamentalist, Pentecostal and Jehovah’s Witnesses are the major players. This is the situation on the border hear, and my colleagues around the country working in areas of large existing and newly arrived Hispanics report the same.
That is why the Bishops’ call to respond to the needs of immigrants, however they arrive here, is so critical, if we don’t the opposition will. The Catholic Church in most border dioceses is also the agency that does the most to help illegals comply with the law and incorporate them and their families into American society as contributing taxpayers, btw.
