I have already made it crystal clear with my husband that my daughter is not allowed to attend Church with her grandmother…my MIL.

I am not comfortable with her Church at all. I respect my MIL and I have no problems with her watching my daughter at our house…but she will not be staying at my MIL’s house on Saturday evening into Sunday morning…ever.

She attends a non-denominational Church…and while she is a wonderful and very charitable person…she doesn’t understand the Catholic faith at all. She can talk about Jesus to my daughter and will read her bible stories…but it ends with Church attendance. My daughter belongs in Mass with my husband and I.

If I were in your situation I would be very hesitant to let my daughter visit the Grandparents if there was a chance she would be heavily influenced by their choice of Christianity. But you know them better then I do and she your child.

You need to spell it out plain and simple to the Grandparents…your daughter is Catholic and no church will fulfill Sunday obligation except for Catholic Mass. That is how she will be raised and you do not feel comfortable with someone else influencing a different form of the faith you will teach her.

My MIL knows our intentions with our daughter. She will be raised Catholic and that is it. There is no room for discussion in the matter.

More often than you might think, BEL, but on this issue, you and I see completely eye-to-eye. I do not believe that being a grandparent means you get a free pass to undermine the parents or to “spoil” the child in a subversive way.
Absolutely!

I couldn’t agree with you more!

If i would be in your shoes, i wouldn’t allow my child to go in a different church. I would teach her to honor their believes, the difference between the two religion but most of all, how it is important for her to stay faithful to the Catholic church. Pray and ask Holy spirit to guide you. Worry more what the lord think of you as a parent then other human being.

I would be firm with the Candy, if this is important for them to give her treat, perhaps, you can find organic candy and give that to the grand parent so they can use those candies instead.

You will find a way, you are the voice of your child and being there for her, is what you are supposed to do.

Don’t feel guilty but proud for standing up for her.

Hugs and love

p.s You can always consult with a priest on this issue.
