I know a teen that attends a Christian school (connected to a Lutheran church) but is a Catholic. His school every year on ash wednesday offers the imposition of ashes. This is in order with the Lutheran Church’s traditions and in their method/run by their pastor. He has never received the imposition of ashes from the school because he feels that it is against the Catholic Church because it is Lutheran. Should he be receiving the imposition of ashes from this school?

The imposition of ashes isn’t a sacrament, but that said, I think it would probably be better for him to receive it at his Catholic parish, unless his priest says its ok. The one to ask is his priest.

Yeah, this sounds like an ask-the-priest question. I doubt it is a big deal either way, but the priest might nonetheless have preferences.

The imposition of ashes isn’t a sacrament, so I know a non Catholic can receive them in a Catholic ceremony, Having said that, the ashes are a sacramental so I guess the question is whether the authority of a Catholic priest is required to bless them to make them a sacramental.
