An old friend of mine died last week and had a complete Mass of Christian Burial. He was Baptist. His wife was Catholic. I never heard that he had ever attended RCIA nor did any of our other mutual Catholic friends. Needless to say it surprised us all.

My father was not Catholic and although Mass was said for his funeral (my mother never pressured him to convert although he attended Mass w/ the family after VII), it was not a Mass of Christian Burial. Many of the prayers were not the same, there was no censing of the casket although the casket was blessed with holy water.

Anyone know the rules on this?

Oh yeah the rosary was said at the wake and it was specifically listed in the obits as Mass of Christian Burial.
