Non-Catholic stance on being Saved if you are a sinner

I have been thinking about this one a lot lately, and figured that this forum was a great place to get some answers. There is a huge outrage over gay people in the Christian Community (gay marriage, etc). Non-Catholics and Catholics alike believe that they are sinners. From the “non-Catholic” perspective, why are they so different than any other sinner?

If Protestant Christians believe that they are saved by faith alone, isn’t it true that a homosexual, that has accepted the Lord Jesus as their Saviour is going to heaven? How is it any different than say a Liar who is saved, or any other sinner? I realize that the rationale is that if they are living a homosexual lifestyle than they aren’t REALLY saved, but we’re all sinners. Doesn’t that mean none of us are going to heaven?

This is what I have been taught - and this is my understanding of the Anglican version, with to me is very similar to the Catholic version I have been told. It will be all of God’s people will be saved, those who have been baptized/christened will be saved…

I’m pretty sure most Protestants think gay people are going to hell.

I was at a concert at a non-denominational church this summer and the girl next to me saw someone walk by that she went to school with. She said “I wonder what she’s doing here, she’s gay? Maybe she isn’t anymore.” At the time, all I said was “oh”, but looking back I wish I had said, “oh, I didn’t know sinners weren’t welcome here”.

Yes, they are sinners, but so is everyone else. The issue is not whether or not one is sinful, but whether or not we seek absolution of sins, and whether or not we strive to conform oursleves to His commands.
Luther said: “There is no justification without sanctification, no forgiveness without renewal of life, no real faith from which the fruits of new obedience do not grow.”

So, the disposition of gays is no different than the rest of us.

You have perfectly outlined the conundrum of the protestant paradigm. We are sinners but we dont sin if we have been “saved” but when we do sin since they claim we are not sinless our sins have already been paid for by Jesus dying on the cross. As catholics we believe we are saved by the death of Jesus but our sinful nature renders us unprepared or inappropriate for heaven since sin stains us and since nothing impure can enter heaven we must be purified, in other words purgatory.

I guess that’s where I’m confused. I’ve been catholic all my life, so I totally get the whole purgatory thing, and what catholics believe. I don’t understand the protestant view of how if you are saved your sins have already been forgiven, unless of course your sin is homosexuality. I guess they would say that if you’re gay then you aren’t really saved. I just don’t see the difference. What about the person who is full of anger, who doesn’t forgive, They live like that everyday but still claim to be saved. I have a feeling there won’t be many responses for this post because they can’t possibly make any sense. I love how things like this reinforce my catholic beliefs and show how it is truly the religion that Jesus founded.

In my opinion it seems like an entirely irrational belief system. They need to deny many things in order for it to make sense to them. When you press them on it they become very aggressive.
