Non-Catholic taking Communion: Priest say's it's ok!

I have a friend who is an Anglican. At Mass today he was present as he has been for the last three weeks as he is exploring the catholic faith. However I noticed that he was receiving communion. After Mass I had a quiet word with him explaining that as catholics we believe you must be in communion with the Church to receive the Eucharist, unfortunately he didn’t take this to well.

I then went to talk to Father and ask his advice on how to follow up this talk with the person. I was told off for mentioning anything to him and told that the there is no problem with an Anglican or anyone else receiving communion on the Catholic Church, it is down to the individuals discretion and the Church allows anyone who has any believe in the Eucharist (even if it is only a memorial belief) to take communion.

I’m pretty sure that my Priest is wrong but I’m not sure how to bring it up with him. Please give me your advice!

Also I’d love any Church documents stating the Catholic view of people not in communion with us receiving the Eucharist as I’m not well versed in the matter and would like to read around the subject.

Pray for this priest. Like the rest of us, priests are human, and prone to pride. I’m sure Father probably thinks that ‘he’ is doing the ‘Christ-like’ thing and that petty ‘legalism’ is beneath him. He probably doesn’t think that HE is being disobedient per se but merely ‘following his conscience’ and being like Christ. We have a lot of ‘wanna-be’ Christs who want to be the teacher, the healer, the miracle-worker, the ‘helper’. . .but very few who want to be the sufferer who was OBEDIENT TO DEATH. May God enlighten him.

The only other question remaining is should I take the issue up with the Priest in question again and try and make him see that he is wrong or should I simply pray for him?

I think you should write to the bishop. I think your diocese is Arundel and Brighton from the website dabnet.org .
