Non-Catholic thoughts on Nicki Minaj’s “Exorcism” grammy proformance - Catholic thoughts welcome as well…

My thought are that it was another secular attack on The Church and try to make a serious ritual into a entertainment joke and portray Catholic’s as crazy! And this was definately a slam againt Catholicism as she showed up with the “pope” on the red carpet.

Any thoughts?

I was disgusted.

The audience did not seem to care much for it either. I will admit I do not know much if anything about exorcism or the proper way for a priest to attempt to exorcise and this seemed to me blasphemous.

I don’t understand much of pop culture music either.

I saw on the news someone at the Grammys led everyone in prayer for Whitney Houston.
So…lemmie get this straight…after a performance (or before, I have zero interest in the Grammys) mocking Christianity and the Catholic Church, these same people…SAME PEOPLE pray for Whitney Houston?
You can’t make this stuff up.

I caught part of that flipping through the channels. So that’s what that was. I was seriously disturbed (and I listen to heavy metal! :p). I saw a bunch of guys in albs dancing around and some altar-boy type guys on kneelers and the singer looked positively demonic. It was one of the more disturbing visual images I’ve encountered in a while.

I didn’t linger on the channel, though, so I don’t know if there was some larger artistic point to the whole thing. 🤷 I just had a knee-jerk negative visceral reaction.

I did not watch the Grammys but I saw pictures of Nicki Minaj from that event. They shocked me but its not gonna get me to pay any attention to her for her antics on stage. From the pictures I saw, I was truly offended & I would say so no matter my religion.

Catholic’s would be the largest voting block and consumer block if we could unite. All it would take is 1% of practicing Catholics in America to voice their opinion to these organizations (the recording academy, cbs and their advertisers) that we are not going to sit down and shut-up anymore. You cannot insult us anymore. We have new group of Bishops that need our support. Stand strong and know that blessed are we who are persecuted in Jesus’ name.

I am 30years old and alot of my group of friends Catholic and non-Catholic alike who are sick and tired of the media and secular groups telling us what morals are. Stand-up and do not take this assault anymore. IMO if you are not willing to take a stand when your faith is being assaulted/corrupted then you are part of the problem. Is it time that the Bishops start to “cull the herd”? Especially the politicains and beauracrats that are Catholic and promoting legislation and commands that are at odds with Catholic doctrine

I look at the Catholic Church as a Big magnificant tree… The roots are the apostles the water that nourishes us… Jesus and the The Sacrements through the Holy Spirit… The trunk… The Bible, Tradition and the Magesterium… The Branches… some healthy producing fruit and some dead that need to be cut off and some that need to be trimmed.
God Bless,

Even if I were not a Catholic…and I haven’t always been one… it would have been disgusting!

Even before I saw it, I knew her performance would be tasteless. She just disgusts me every time I see her perform. Ewww…

Who is Nicki Minaj? Do you have a link for what she/he said/sang?

If one spends as much time as I have on CAF, one could never come away with the notion that Catholics are crazy. Though I will say I’ve seen enough people attack the Catholic Church who came off as appearing crazy themselves.

I usually have zero interest in watching Grammys so I didn’t see it. Good thing. I would have been outraged:bigyikes:

at the beginning of the show, LL Cool J respectfully paid tribute to the late singer whitney houston and asked the audience to pray with him as he said a prayer for whitney.

the nicki minaj fiasco came about 2/3 of the way into the show. it was a mess. i wasn’t sure where she was going with the performance. the song was terrible and i figured she was trying to create some buzz like lady gaga does with an over the top performance.
it was stupid i thought. i felt a little sorry for her because i think the audience was confused about what the point was she was trying to make.

It was disgusting and evil. This is the same comment I posted about this from a topic in the World News forum:

After seeing Madonna’s Super Bowl half time show full of occultic imagery this is no surprise. I normally never watch the Grammys but after talking to my wife about the media and pop culture being infested with evil my wife asked if the Grammys would not demonstrate this. The only reason I watched was to show her it would. In this sense Nicki Minaj did not disappoint.

On one level this certainly was mockery of Christianity and most specifically Catholicism. I do not believe it stops there and think that the whole thing is much more sinister. Really as a Christian this should not be hard to believe. Given the state of our society one would expect evil to flourish and permeate our culture.

That stunt in the grammy’s was obviously a publicity stunt to get people to notice her. I mean, I don’t listen to Pop (I’m a rock guy) and I know who Lady Gaga is. I do not know who Nicki Minaj is, even after the stunt I don’t know what her songs are. Anyway, the point of what she did is gain notoriety and publicity, which is threads like this are helping her accomplish.

Thing like that are better left undiscussed and forgotten. If we start voicing our disgust about it, we just cooperated with what she is trying to do.

I agree with all this. In fact, as we see the lifestyles most of thes individuals live is so counterproductive it just can’t be overlooked today. Whitney Houston is a perfect example of the on-going sad senerio.

I found the performance boring and confusing. Perhaps I would have been more offended if it made some sense. Instead I think she just made a fool of herself.

I am much more offended by her showing up with “the pope”.

Just saw the picture on Yahoo news. Never even tried to read the the “publicity” write up. I find it:

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Sad what people make of themselves just to get the attention.

Maybe, but according to Nicki the Grammys chose the song
“The Grammys chose ‘Roman Holiday.’ The producers of the Grammys came to the studio and I played them ‘Roman Holiday,’ and I could not play them another record after they heard that. They went crazy. I could have chosen to do a no-brainer pop song, but I can’t do it anymore. I have to stay true to what I’m doing.”
So they chose it and were aware of the content of the show. At the end of the day this is what the Grammys chose to display to all of America on a Sunday night. Coincidentally they had the best ratings since 1988. This year many people who liked Whitney Houston happened to tune in because of her death. I wonder if Nicki’s fan base tend to watch the Grammys? It would seem to me her audience would be those who watch the MTV awards.

So you are not supposed to stand up to evil when it is right in front of you? She was gonna get the publicity from the media anyway. It is our right (IMO our duty) as Catholics to tell the company when we do not like a particular “product” and this is one of those times. Maybe we should just not discuss the hhs mandate or abortion. This is exactly how we got to where we are in this country. We sat by and did not want to make waves and secular society just kept moving and moving and we did nothing and now our society is being destroyed and reverting into a hedonistic lust filled sesspool
