I didn’t really see it as mocking anything or anybody, I think that’s just a bit too strong and knee jerk. I was offended because it was just a terrible, jumbled performance with awful, awful vocals. Nicki Minaj is a subpar rapper, she thinks she’s Lil’ Kim redux when truly she’s just a low rent version of Gaga who is herself just a pale imitation of Madonna.

We should all know by now that in this day and age nothing is sacred or respected anymore. They make fun of southern baptists on tv all of the time why not catholicism? It makes me wonder though because I like Nicki Minaj why she would even go down that road of pitiful bored satyr you don’t often see the traditions of the Catholic church taken into these realms very often. They are not original- they are scared- the twist everything sacred to mess with our minds I personally won’t by into it. .🤷 oh well her funeral her judgement.🙂

Can anyone say Sinead O’Connor?

All of these stunts tend to backfire one way or another.

The said thing about all of it is the more we talk about it, the more notoriety she gains.

I don’t watch the Grammys, or the Emmys, or the Miss America/Miss Universe pageants, or anything along that nature.

I have absolutely no interest in any of them, nor do I care about them.

I have no idea who Nicki Mina is, however, I did find a link to her 2012 Grammy performance and watched the video.

Not only did I find it to be tasteless and insulting (as I am Roman Catholic), but the song itself was flat out horrible and irritating.

This is why I don’t bother watching shows like the Grammys… I couldn’t handle having to sit through this kind of drivel.

That tasteless, blasphemous display was a testimony to the fact that the Catholic Church is on the right track. The devil only attacks those he feels threatened by. Jesus stated that ‘the gates of hell would not prevail’ against His Church, so be encouraged!

Catholic’s would be the largest voting block and consumer block if we could unite. All it would take is 1% of practicing Catholics in America to voice their opinion to these organizations (the recording academy, cbs and their advertisers) that we are not going to sit down and shut-up anymore. You cannot insult us anymore. We have new group of Bishops that need our support. Stand strong and know that blessed are we who are persecuted in Jesus’ name.

I am 30years old and alot of my group of friends Catholic and non-Catholic alike who are sick and tired of the media and secular groups telling us what morals are. Stand-up and do not take this assault anymore. IMO if you are not willing to take a stand when your faith is being assaulted/corrupted then you are part of the problem. Is it time that the Bishops start to “cull the herd”? Especially the politicains and beauracrats that are Catholic and promoting legislation and commands that are at odds with Catholic doctrine

I look at the Catholic Church as a Big magnificant tree… The roots are the apostles the water that nourishes us… Jesus and the The Sacrements through the Holy Spirit… The trunk… The Bible, Tradition and the Magesterium… The Branches… some healthy producing fruit and some dead that need to be cut off and some that need to be trimmed.
God Bless,

I agree with you. It is time that we stand up for Our Catholic Faith and not be afraid. The more we keep quiet, the more we are a part of it and the more it grows and they say more and more false things against us. Our young teens believe them and this is the sad news. As adults, as Catholics, as parents, we have to teach the youth the Truth and spread the Truth even if we get rididuled. I heard this echoed last night by a priest in my dd’s Confirmation preparation class. He asked the parents and students, “Are you on God’s side or man’s side?” “Will you defend your Faith or not?” He was not even talking about the grammy’s. The only thing he mentioned about the Grammys was the one woman who received the most grammy’s was the one who had not sung in six months and how God had rewarded her faith. He said it better than how I am explaining it. I did not watch the grammy’s so I don’t know what was said.

I did see parts of the performances of Niki’s on the news and it was disgusting and very sad. We should pray for her.

Well, when you have no real talent, I suppose you have no choice but to resort to blatantly offensive tactics to get your name out there.

I think the most controversial performer was Adele. I mean, c’mon, she didn’t show any skin, she looks like she actually eats from time to time and she can actually sing. What on earth was she doing??

So you are not supposed to stand up to evil when it is right in front of you? She was gonna get the publicity from the media anyway. It is our right (IMO our duty) as Catholics to tell the company when we do not like a particular “product” and this is one of those times. Maybe we should just not discuss the hhs mandate or abortion. This is exactly how we got to where we are in this country. We sat by and did not want to make waves and secular society just kept moving and moving and we did nothing and now our society is being destroyed and reverting into a hedonistic lust filled sesspool

I agree 100%!

Non-Catholic thoughts on Nicki Minaj’s “Exorcism” grammy proformance - Catholic thoughts welcome as well…

My thought are that it was another secular attack on The Church and try to make a serious ritual into a entertainment joke and portray Catholic’s as crazy! And this was definately a slam againt Catholicism as she showed up with the “pope” on the red carpet.

Any thoughts?

Hypery. It was a silly performance gimick and should be treated as such. Real anti-Catholicism is a bit more worrying.

Nicki Minaj is an okay artist, but she’s been taking a ‘weirder’ direction in her music and the Grammy’s performance was just the worst of it (perhaps so far).

Real anti-Catholicism worrying. This was just bad taste (in music, in PR, in fashion, in…) and I wouldn’t treat it as more than a gimmick.

(bold mine)
For her debut album, Minaj created another alter-ego named “Roman Zolanski”. She stated that in songs like “Bottoms Up” with Trey Songz it is not Minaj rapping, but instead Roman Zolanski, and claims that Roman is her “twin sister”. She claims that he was born inside her, out of rage, and becomes him when she is angry. She has also said 'He is a demon inside her’. Roman has been compared to Eminem’s alter ego Slim Shady, and on the song “Roman’s Revenge” from Pink Friday, Minaj and Eminem collaborate, using these alter egos.
…]
He’s the boy that lives inside of me.** He’s a lunatic and he’s gay** and he’ll be on there a lot." Roman also has a “mother” called “Martha Zolanski”, who also appeared on the song Roman’s Revenge, with a British accent.
The character Roman has been in two other songs, neither of which reference any Catholic imagery as far as I noticed. Gimmicky, and not even her first single off the album. Cheap trick by the Grammys, that’s all. I doubt the Grammys want to attack the church, they just like viewing figures and buzz. They’re getting all they wanted, so it worked.

I don’t consider any rock/pop/rap/metal/etc to be good music. They are all rather simple and they lack true music.

Theres a very long list of musicians who studied for example at the Royal College of Music, and/or are learned classical and orchestrational musicians who simply do not play classical music, though their music is influenced by this.

To suggest they are not good musicians is a false statement. Fact is they are attracted to improvasition which is the answer to the question of why they do not remain within the confines of classical. The free style form attracts them through the call and response with other very good musicians.

Of course Nicki Minaj wouldn’t reside in this catagory at all.

Yes, some jazz is good and I listen to it occasionally.

However, classical music is what I usually listen to and is what I consider to be the superior art form.

Finally saw this. That girl gone bonkers. This is what happens when you start out edgy, going softer seems weird and hurts sales. The gimmick takes on a life of its own. The person can, and often does, become lost in the persona. One day she will realize her music is lacking in talent, and being a performance artist is not musicianship. Her world will crash and she will understand how and why she is the butt of jokes. Only pride could stop this, and if embraced shall be her bitter downfall. She likes pretending to know how to speak in accents. I hope she takes up Latin, and truly studies what she currently mocks.

In the meantime, I hope her momma is proud of her.

Zenkai- Brother, stuff like the following is more than just mere music, it is composition. It is classical music theory of arrangement for an effect from the audience to display the emotion, set the scene, and draw the picture.

I present to you Roger Waters: www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTOeE_Zn05A

That wasn’t really a classical-style composition, but at least it was better than Nicki Minaj :D.
