This discussion is the inevitable result of the concept of “private interpretation”. Is it really possible that God intended there to be confusion with regards to what is required for salvation? I say no. That’s why he instituted his Church (the Catholic Church). The one that would lead us “into all truth”. The one which would be persecuted, but also the one which would never sucumb to the “gates of hell”. It’s the rejection of the teaching authority of the Catholic Church (among other things) which has resulted in the creation of over 28,000 Protestant denominations.
