Non-Catholic? Why are you on this forum?

Because although I believe firmly with every fiber of my being that I am in the right place (the One True Church), I also know that I have a lot to learn and Satan has a way of confusing and confounding.
Ah yes I see.🙂 My sister told me I should stay away from CAF because it could confuse me. What it did was make me study both sides more then I ever would. I have been confused at times, but after prayer and biblical study, I have actually come away with a much stronger faith then before I started.😃

Dont be afraid to be challenged or confused because with enough prayer and study God will show you the way.👍

The purpose of this forum from the perspective of the staff is:

“explore the history and beliefs of non-Catholic and non-Christian faiths, dialogue with their adherents”

The goal of this interreligious dialogue is to remove errors, provide insight and offer new perspectives to those who are interested.

I find it just as interesting that there are people visiting and posting in the non-Catholic forum, who choose to avoid anything that doesn’t have to do with Catholicism.

🤷

I am very happy for you that you are strong enough to be able to see outside the box, if you will. I was outside the box at various times in my life and now that I am here and sure that I am in the right place, I am very happy to just get stronger in my faith without any outside influence.

Whoa, Nellie!! Don’t roll your eyes at me. There is absolutely no insecurity here, just true curiousity. The point of Catholic Answers is to answer Catholic questions. I am curious as to why a non-Catholic would come here as I have never felt the desire to frequent a non-Catholic forum.

Maybe you need to be less quick to judgement.
Maybe you need to look at all the threads that have been posted on this subject in the past. I find it truly strange. Shouldn’t you be happy that Protestants are interested in Catholicism?

I think that the cause of Catholicism (and/or of truth in general) will be best served if this board remains a place where non-Catholics can engage in serious discussion without having their personal motives questioned. I get really tired of the patronizing “oh, well, you’re on the way, you’ll convert eventually.” Why not just discuss the issues?

Well, I do agree that you should learn about your faith and become strong in it before tackling us noncatholics:p 😃 😉

In the email notification I got of your post, it ended with: “If you do not wish to participate, my best advice is don’t.” Why?

I am having trouble with understanding why some got so bothered by my question. I wasn’t attacking, yet I feel attacked. I wasn’t telling anyone to go away, yet I am being told not to participate.

Back down. Take my question for what it was - curiousity. :newidea: What a concept!

A whole lot more insulting and sarcastic than was needed to say that you just like to learn about the beliefs of others. Why so circuitous? It makes me wonder about your true motives.
Goodness it was just a joke. Apparently humor doesn’t translate well over computer screens.

I wasn’t questioning your personal motives so much as I was satisfying my curiiousity. They are not the same thing. Maybe you can be a little more charitable. 😛 If others have talked of converting you that has nothing to do with the question I asked.:tiphat:

People took this as an attack because of how your worded your original post. It automatically puts people on the defensive. Again, online communications may have misled all of us if you really intended innocent curiosity. And all of the responses that state that you’re (I’m paraphrasing my OWN impression of your responses) “settled enough in your own place within Catholicism to not seek outside influences”…these things put people on the defensive because they are criticisms of what goes on in the non-Catholic forum.

If it was just a joke, I apologize for not taking it as such. :ouch: I am usually pretty quick to recognize humor.:yup:

Sorry. I get too touchy.

Well, I do not want to start an argument. In this day and age strong faith can be a great asset.
I am very happy to just get stronger in my faith without any outside influence.
Here is one scenario to think about, (not that I’m converting). If this was a Closed forum could that have stopped someone from converting? I think it is safe to say that a few here have, and some you may never hear from or know about. Would not even one person be worth it to you guys? And I have seen non-christians come here as well. Where would you rather they go? Some may say…“Well,. they can go visit a priest or a church” In reality that is probably not going to happen. But going to a place like this is an opportunity to maybe learn a little more and see the interaction. Many will not go to a church, in a way religious forums are a type or an outreach of a church. A modern way to bring your faith to the people.

No matter what our Christian beliefs, most do believe in the Great Commission. Isn’t that what it’s all about. Bringing Christ to the world? Need to be connected to the outside world to do that. One day you will be asked a lot of questions by people that are not going to ask a priest, who knows, it may help you to know what they believe and then you can tell them what you believe and why.

I bet there are a lot more Protestants here thinking you guys are out to convert them than vice versa. .

Nicely said, Philothea! 👍 I feel the same way, and since I used to be a non-Catholic, I like this particular forum to see what others of different practices have to say.

What I absolutely despise are non-Catholic posters who try to tell me that I’m damned, don’t know Jesus, need to get down on my knees and invite Jesus to be my personal Saviour, am an idolater, Mary-worshiper, trying to work my way into Heaven, mindless-repetition prayer. . . and then they just go on and on and ON! I made the mistake of getting involved on a thread with a particular poster, and it just made me so mad because this person–a non-Catholic–was taking it upon himself to judge my heart and soul as a Catholic.

But I’ve come to realize that I should just let it go, pray for these misguided people and continue being formed into the Catholic person Jesus wants me to be. 🙂

Oh, and since I have been here I have picked up a few Latin terms and discovered that Tiber Swim team does not mean what I thought it meant! lol 😃

Your response here is post #29. I have posted responses:

#18 Because although I believe firmly with every fiber of my being that I am in the right place (the One True Church), I also know that **I have a lot to learn **and Satan has a way of confusing and confounding.

#23 I am very happy for you that you are strong enough to be able to see outside the box, if you will. I was outside the box at various times in my life and now that I am here and sure that I am in the right place, **I am very happy to just get stronger in my faith **without any outside influence.

I don’t see where either one of these should have put anyone on the defensive. I was admitting to my own lack of knowledge and my own weakness. Maybe you all need to rethink your attitudes and comments.

To address your last statement first: after all, this IS a Catholic forum.:tiphat:

As far as the rest of your post goes: right on! But, in the meantime, I have to take care of my own salvation or I won’t be any good to anyone else. At this time in my own faith journey, I would be better off helping people with their more earthly needs.😃

I’ll pray for you if you’ll pray for me 😃

Now that one I haven’t learned yet. Actually, I have meant to ask but always got on to other things. What does it mean?

Rome lies on the Banks of the Tiber River, so when one “Swims the Tiber”, they are returning home to the Church. At least I think that is what it means! LOL I actually thought they had some kind of swim team and a lot of the teammates were members on this board.

Hummm…in a way I suppose that is correct as well! 😃
