I am just curious to know what the reasons are that so many non-Catholics are on this forum. This is Catholic Answers. Are you here to convert - yourself - or us? Do you have a true curiousity or do you just want to show us the error of our ways?
I was invited - I pop in every now and then - This is the most respectable and charitable christian forum that I have posted on

Speaking only for myself: neither. I have no wish to convert or be converted. I do have Catholic relatives and friends that are dear to me. I’m also someone that tries to understand another person’s POV. If I have a question about what a Catholic believes, I’ll ask a Catholic. Also, since the board is open to everyone and there are also assumptions made by Catholics towards Protestants…I feel the right to correct anything that is not representing our view correctly.
Colleen you are one of the few…i can’t tell you how many times i have asked a protestant where he/she has received a particular point of view from , and the answer is always the same VIZ. …Well our pastor/grandfather/grandmother told us of course !!! It’s been like that for centuries.😦

I can only speak for myself. I am truly curious. I think there are some mistakes in Christianity, but I should understand what I think to be mistakes before calling you on them.

I came because I do not like jack chick and was looking up info on him.

stayed cause I have a rather confused catholic buddy and have been able to clear up some things for her.

stayed because when we all do actually talk there is things to learn.

🙂

ps to Edwin

you ever post at a particular site, atheist types? its been awhile, Im the same name there, except have a Kitty pic. just cat curious.

What possible use for apologetics is incorrect information? Say, for instance, that one for some unknown reason wanted to convert a Catholic to one’s own religion, would it be helpful if one came up to the Catholic and said “You should convert to my religion because we don’t worship statues or dance the hornpipe on the church lawn with blue ducks tied to our heads every third Thursday” or is it more likely the person would think one was at best misinformed or at worst a loony and get as far away as possible?
Karen, I just have to say this is one of the funniest things I have read in quite a while! I was laughing so hard that every time I tried to read it to my husband, I cracked up to the point of tears! Thank you! And as a side note - I agree with your post on the whole. It’s quite irresponsible to tout what one thinks another religion does or believes without learning about it. Thank you for being here.
My experience with Protestantism was always so negative. I was being told in a non-denominational Bible study I was involved in for two years that Catholics don’t read the Bible, being told all sorts of falsehoods about what the cc teaches. When I disputed their false assertions, they wouldn’t believe me.
I too had a similar experience. Being raised in the Catholic religion, I did not stay in the church after my parents’ divorce. In my 20s, I joined a Protestant church and it was very difficult to sit through Bible studies when someone would get on an anti-Catholic rant. I had nothing to say and sincerely wish they didn’t “bash” like that, for as well-meaning as they thought they were being - it just wasn’t becoming for Christians to attack other Christians.

I know now that much of what they said (and apparently believed) was wrong! How I wish I could go back and tell them so!

I happened upon this thread searching for the meaning or origin of the Tiber Swim Team reference, so thank you, Auriel for spelling it out for us!

Learn something new every day!

Guess that would make me a Tiber Return Swim Team of '05 (Originally 1977) Does that make me proficient in the backstroke?

Honestly? I’m here because Catholic Answers put me on their mailing list and refuses to take me off. I figure that if I have to put up with all of their garbage, then the best revenge is to come here and refute Roman Catholic teaching.

I have read all your posts today, starting with where that atheist guy got the best of you with his superior knowledge of Scripture, and his clever arguments. 😦 In my view, you don’t have the slightest idea of what Roman Catholicism is, and I am a little embarrassed for you. I wish you would take the time to educate yourself so that there could be some intelligent dialogue with you. The teachings of the Church can be found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Peace,

You really think that guy knew the Bible? He didn’t even know the difference between the Old and New Covenants. No wonder you’re Roman Catholic.
I wish you would take the time to educate yourself so that there could be some intelligent dialogue with you.
But how can you ever hope to have intelligent dialogue with anyone, when all you can do is make false accusations and engage in childish name calling?

I think he knew it better than you… Maybe he just faked it really well.

(Sorry!)

So, he doesn’t know the difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant. He doesn’t know the difference between angels and humans. He doesn’t know the criteria for salvation. He doesn’t know that we will not have a sin nature in Heaven.

And you believe that he knows the Bible? Like I said, if you believe that’s what doctrinal knowledge looks like, it’s no wonder you’re Roman Catholic.

I guess I missed all that because I was too busy laughing at his posts.🤷

Unfortunately for you, sir, he knew that there is a huge section in the book of Exodus about the priests’ VESTMENTS, including the first high priest, Aaron. Also, you should check out Revelation to see more priests wearing VESTMENTS. How, as a Bible teacher for the last 12 years, do you not know that? Why can’t you apologize for implying that Catholics are pagans for wearing vestments. I know it takes humility, but it sure feels good to say “I’m sorry” sometimes… 😉

Want some advice? Although I’m not a spiritual adviser, my advice is to put down the books, except your Bible. And stop visiting the apologetics and debate and liturgy threads, and just hang out in the Spirit for awhile. That can be hard, because it’s addictive in a sense. But when it gets like that, the intellectual rush becomes addiction, you’re out of balance and you need to correct that.
Stop thinking! Quick! You might lose your faith!

:confused:I am sure that there are alot of noncatholics who have questions about the Church founded by Christ himself and this forum would be a good place to at least get some answers and the maybe their eyes would be open to joining the one true church
