i like it here, and i admire many things about the Catholic Church. i read a number of posts and was impressed with the serious and interesting discussions, and decided to join.

so that i could yap.

it’s very active, many different topics, and posters who truly know their church history, catechism, theology, and faith. i find many non-Catholics here also well-informed and intelligent, and it’s a good place to go to understand better Catholic beliefs and traditions, as well as to understand the reasons non-Catholics have for not being Catholic or for disagreeing with Catholic teachings, and to see what we have in common.

4. What keeps you coming back and posting?

i love the discussions and debates. it’s a lively and gracious community, and the people here are really kind and engaging.

I wanted to understand Catholicism better as some of the concepts were quite foreign to me.

The only way to ask questions or participate in answering questions…such as this thread…was to join.

3. What is it that you like about this Catholic Website?

Diversity of belief…even though we have very committed people to their faith traditions…we still seek to communicate…much of the hostility displayed on this website is pretty indicative of religion in general…hopefully dialog lessens the hostility.

4. What keeps you coming back and posting?

Seeking knowledge of what others believe…not from detractors…but from those who consider themselves “believers”.

To talk to people of the Catholic faith and fellowship

A challange, to get my point accross on my beliefs just as strongly as the Catholics do.

To see what is next. To see the mud slinging on both sides. To see how the Catholics treat people of other religions and to see how other religions treat the Catholics. To get their point of view on different topics. And what I have found here is suprising and can’t wait to see what is going to happen next.

It is apparent that you do not know my family.

And I was not a “nominal” catholic. Unless by “nominal” you mean, one who went through 4 years of seminary, was married in the Church, and practiced NFP for years.

And fundamentalist Catholics are a similar breed to fundamentalist Christians. Only, instead of seeing a black and white world through the lens of scripture, they see a black and white world through the lens of Papal Edicts, Catholic Dogma, and Scripture.

1. Well, I grew up in a near-monolithically Protestant part of the world, and realized I didn’t know enough about Catholicism to adjudge it true OR false. And though I was attracted to Catholicism, I had no source of information that could remove, confirm, or soften my misgivings.
2. It’s sort of required to ask questions, and I was full of the weird kind of questions that most people were too sensible to ask before me.
3. The breadth of experiences, the personal insights, and the occasional charitable jousting that can help in revealing truth and sharpening my intellect (God knows that’s welcome).
4. A neverending stream of questions and misgivings, as well as the chance to offer some perspectives of my own–turns out that some species of Protestantism are as little understood here as Catholicism is in my part of the world!

Like so many others on here, i don’t care for it when the discussions turn nasty. At one time or another, I have been called a heretic-lover, turncoat, anti-Catholic wolf in sheeps clothing from some Catholics as well as closed minded and bigoted by non-catholics.

1. I am married to a Catholic, so I was looking for information about the Church.
2. So I could subscribe to threads and easily keep track of them. And, post on occasion.
3. Honestly, not much. What I’ve learned here is at least partially responsible for my decision not to pursue an annulment and join the Church.
4. It’s kind of like biting down on a toothache. You know it’s going to hurt, but you can’t help yourself.

I joined because after searching the forums, I found an area of interest.

I like that every faith is represented.

a.) That I can get answers to questions, with civility (most of the time).
b.) I like that the moderators seem to keep the riff-raff away.
c.) I enjoy lively discussions about many topics, but religion is one that most people avoid (but on the forum, people are obviously here to talk about religion).

For me, it is a matter of wanting to understand Catholicism better. And, perhaps, to help Catholics understand Lutherans better.

The discussions looked interesting and I wanted to take part. It was a good decision on my part.

The level of discussion is usually very good. There are a few occasions when things become a little testy but, by and large, I feel blessed to be able to engage my Catholic brothers and sisters in enlightening discussions.

The people who frequent this forum. I thoroughly enjoy the discussions, the repartee, and the good Christian fellowship I experience here.
