Jesus threw the money changers out of the temple. Wasn’t that gambling? Do you think bingo is proper in a church? What about Bill Bennet gambling over one million dollars in one night? He claims to be a devote Catholic. Is that morally OK?
  1. I am going to Vegas for a vacation when I get out of the Marines. But I am ALWAYS looking for chances to tell people about Jesus Christ. Life IS a mission trip.
  2. I don’t know who Bill Bennet is, but if it was his money, then it was his money to gamble. I wouldn’t be that dumb, but it was still his to spend as he chooses.
  3. No one ever said bingo was proper in church. Do you white water raft in church? Do you go to art shows in church? Do you sky dive in church? Give me a break.

When I first began posting on this forum someone sent a complaint to the MODS about me. Wasn’t that you?
I have popped you once…but that was recenly and I told you about it right up front Alfie. You were way outta line that day.

Now…back to my rebuke…Will you apologize and be reconciled with the persons that you slandered?

What’s the Word say Alfie?

Will you obey it or not?

(This is me REALLY swinging and jumping up and down on your wire now I guess? 😦 )

Wouldn’t they be more like investment bankers today working the currency market?
That’s a thought. . .

Of course, the entire system was so different back then, when it comes to the concept of money, that it’s difficult to make a “contemporary” comparison.

As others have said, they WERE NOT GAMBLING.

They were exactly what the Bible says they were – money changers. People came to the temple from all over, many who used a different kind of currency, or one that was “unfit” for the temple area. They came to give sacrifice to God, AS THEY WERE COMMANDED. It is difficult to take an unblemished lamb on a long journey to Jerusalem, so many simply saved some money and purchased one when they arrived, for example.

I sincerely hope you have not based you entire doctrinal abhorrence for gambling on that one passage.

Peace,

Very true…
…which is the crux of the whole fundamentalist/Catholic “usury” debate.

This is making me more glad I’m Catholic. And THEY accuse CATHOLICS of being too legalistic!!

Not to break your bubble to much but from what I have been reading on the internet there are more Catholics converting to the Protestant religions than visa versa. Even in that staid Catholic bastion “the Republic of Ireland” the number of Evangelicals is beginning to grow. Just think if the Reformation had started 500 years earlier than it did Catholism would be extinct by now.
Your statement is great! It again fullfils scripture as Christ said the “gate is narrow”! He promised the true church will never die. Thanks Alfie for increasing my faith in the RCC!

I couldn’t resist. You found that info on the internet, where? Was it JackChick.com by any chance?
