The Bible answers that question. Only God and the spirit in the man knows for sure. The Holy Spirit will witness to the persons spirit that it is real and the Bible outlines many characteristics of a real faith and the outward result will be a regenerate or life transformation that glorifies God and that others take notice of. Perseverance till the end is an outward example of a real faith, but the object of that faith is what counts. It is easier to identify a false faith than it is a real faith in my own opinion and the worse kind of faith is one that is built upon the foundation of sand with an outward appearance of godliness whos end is destruction. These are the self deceived and the people that travel on that broad road Jesus spoke of.If it is possible for someone to claim to have faith in Christ, but actually not have “real” faith, how does one know that your faith in Christ is real (this is just a hypothetical question, not meant to inflame, 'kay?)
That is, couldn’t you be one of those folks who claims to have faith and then later walks away? And how do you know?
