Non-Catholics: How many Catholics do you know?

i was just wondering what the avg number of Catholics is in a non-Catholic’s life

also if you could explain what you have learned from your involvement w/ same and/or whatever else you think is important… would appreciate it…

I answered too many to count.
I used to “know” more when growing up in the Northeast. I know many fewer having lived in the south now for many years.

I almost answered “define Catholic” because I believe every Lutheran is, or should be considered evangelical catholic. 😃

i recently heard (here) that Lutherans do a lot of catholic bashing…

do you think so?

why aren’t u Catholic? would like to know as much about your background as you are willing to share…

i probably should define Catholic: someone who believes what the Church teaches and practices it to the best of his ability… .is my definition…
 
I know about 7. One is a good friend, 4 are two of my cousins and their spouses, and two others were friends that I’ve lost contact with lately (left for college).

I’ve never learned anything from them really. I generally don’t bring up religion with them or anybody, if they ever do I’m open with my opinions but I try to be respectful of their choices.

i guess i am trying to find out what people think of the Catholics they know… 4 one thing non-Cs can – in these encounters – “learn things” abot catholicism that aren’t true…

I have no religion, and I’m atheist, in some cases (depending on the god or the teachings) anti-theist. I get along really well with the theists in my life, which include a lot more than just the Catholics that I know. Like I said I generally don’t bring up religion, and they don’t either.

What I do know about Catholicism, and all religions for that matter, first comes from reading scripture, an also just general information about what beliefs separate the major sects.
 
If by Catholic you mean apologetic warrior defending the faith against all comers 24/7 then just this website. If you mean “Cafeteria Catholic” who may make it to church on Christmas and Easter or even every Sunday. Who are just like me just at a different home church, then too many to count.

That’s funny because that is the rationale for me answering “Define Catholic.”
 
I was a protestant till 12 years ago when I saw “the light” and jumped that Tiber.
Having grown up Lutheran, I totally disagree that lutherans should ever be considered anything but lutherans and followers of Martin Luther. A lutheran by any other name is still…a lutheran.
If you want to call yourself Catholic, then get into RCIA, learn The True Faith and join the Holy Catholic Church.

Yeah, sadly there’s some, though probably no more than Catholics who bash Lutherans.
The real shame of it is our leaders don’t seem to be into the bashing, and we can disagree without it, quite frankly.

I still view the Augsburg Confession as a true reflection of scripture. There’s a former Lutheran here, now Catholic, who calls the Lutheran confessions “blessed”, because he still believes them to be primarily a “catholic document”. And I agree. I’m waiting for Rome to say so, too.

I’m cradle Lutheran, almost 56 now. My dad was a Lutheran pastor. I attended a Lutheran college, and have a daughter in one now. I love the Lutheran liturgy of the mass, etc.

i sometimes wonder if i would be a devout Catholic myself if it weren’t for the Real Presence… and the MASS which is awesome… :)The Mass lifts a person far above the human realm… into another realm…

If you ask me the human realm is infested w/ terrible demons… to one degree or another, depending on who the humans in question are… etc.

have you been to many Masses?
 
I live in a mostly Catholic neighborhood, with a 1000-member parish and a 2000-member parish and school within a couple miles of my house. I’ll call it too many to count. 😃

Several and a couple (including one who is very devout) rather well.
 
Too many to count. Nearly all of my relatives are Catholic, along with many of my co-workers

Yes, and I have an idea of the feeling you are talking about. But big group participation events tend to have a very strong affect on people, it also motivates group-think so I don’t find those situations reliable to make an unclouded conclusion about most things.

About half of my dad’s side of the family is Catholic. Italian, after all 🙂 So, yeah, way too many to count.
