Non-Catholics: How many of you are considering to convert to Catholicism?

I picked “yes I am” but the real answer is “sort of.”

I’m looking into it, now slowed down a lot by the fact I started work last week.

I liken myself to that person in the movies or cartoons that sneaks up on the big sleeping creature and pokes at it, and runs away when it stirs, and then starts the process all over again.

Either I’m going to tire of it or get too scared of it and run off for good, or the creature is going to devour me. 😉
 
I voted can’t swim the Tiber. I have a couple of issues with Catholic teaching that can’t seem to be reconciled.

TONS! I suggest going to Scripture Catholic which is linked to in my sig. You can also check out amm.org/chss.htm for Fr Lukefahr’s apostolate which gives free Catholic books mailed directly to your door with quizzes. I also suggest checking out Father Corapi’s website as well as the Mary Foundation for free audio CDs. I also suggest that you learn how to pray the rosary, meditate on the mysteries and pray it daily for guidance in accepting fully the Catholic Faith.

Same here…although in fairness the same can be said about Presbyterian, Baptist…

Although once I read a Catholic article that stated that if I got out of the internet into real life and talked with a priest instead of an amateur apologist about my differences that he would probably say something like “Come on in with your differences. As long as you are not divisive about them, we will work with you on them”.

That seems reasonable since my differences with the Catholic church are probably less than the differences the average pro-choice American Catholic has with the church.

To be fair, the local Presbyterian and Baptist churches would probably say the same thing.

In which case it just boils down to the reason Singin’Beauty said…it just does not seem to be the road the Lord is leading me at this time. In the future…who knows.
 
i am thinking of becoming catholic because my faince is catholic and so was my grandfather. it be nice to keep this religion going in my family.

All “issues” people have with the RCC boil down to one thing: Authority.

Hi,

I agree with Syele on this as well. The thread would just turn into the CC is right and you are wrong and you need to swim the Tiber. That is not productive at all , for us anyway.🤷

Hi,

I would tend to agree with this as well. I think if I went in and talk to a priest–our differences wouldnt seem as vast as they do here sometimes.:cool:

yea authority, although Gods authority is good, I just cant reconcille a God who is bigger than everything to be restrained in our ways to contact Him. Im with Singing on this, He will lead me where I need to be, always has, always will.
 
I checked #2. Can’t, won’t, whichever. Boils down to the fact I don’t necessarily believe there is a God at all let alone that there’s one specific church he wants be to join.

I’ve got Catholic extended family, and I’m mostly here to find out more about their religion without needing to read boring textbooks (which only usually offer one viewpoint, the author’s) .👍

Also like someone else said, I can’t swim at all!

Yeah, I do not know enough about it to make any type of decision on it, however having said that…what I have seen since coming here is an awful lot of rules, and terms I have never heard of before in my life. It’s like another language!

Was that you poolside?
