Non-Catholics: How many of you are considering to convert to Catholicism?

I was raised Catholic and was educated in parochial schools. I will always be grateful for the excellent education I received there. There is much that is beautiful in the Church and I revere that as well. But it is not for me.

I searched for many years and came to realize that there was nothing in Christianity for me. I looked into Taoism, Hinduism, animist religions. None were right for me.

One day I read, What the Buddhs Taught by Venerable Wapola Rahula. It was as though, at long last, I was finally home. My devout Catholic family think I am strange and that this is some sort of phase, but I will never return to Rome.

I do hope that each of you find the right river to cross and find as much satisfaction and inspiration in your journey as I am finding in mine.

I’m considering it- a lot of arguments make sense and line up with what I have been concluding for the last few years on doctrinal issues- although there are still some hurdles for me, but the research is continuing- although it will take a while.

I really like watching this program because it demonstrates many of the rich facets of our Faith that have brought people into the Catholic Church. A revert myseslf - I love to watch this program.

I’ve been posting on this thread to update my progress in study of Christian denominations, since I had mentioned I was considering converting to Catholicism. I once again thank all of those on this thread who have provided valuable resources which spell out Catholic beliefs clearly and convincingly, for these resources have helped me out quite a bit. I now have questions for all of you, which I think fit well under this thread:

What aspect of Catholicism drew you or draws converts most to Catholicism?
What would you say is the prime factor which makes Catholicism unique and true above all other denominations?

What aspect of Catholicism drew you or draws converts most to Catholicism?

I think every convert has a different reason. For me, personally? It was an intellectual decision. Once I wrapped my brain around the idea that Jesus founded One Church, and that the RCC was the Church that could trace its roots all the way back to the apostles, specifically Peter and the Keys to the Kingdom, I knew I could never be Protestant again.

What would you say is the prime factor which makes Catholicism unique and true above all other denominations?

Apostolic succession and Jesus’ promise that the gates of Hell would not prevail against His Church. He told the apostles that the Holy Spirit would guide them into ALL TRUTH, and remind them of things that He had told them. I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard non-Catholic Christians claim that verse for themselves, but then they seem to have a different version of truth from their friend or relative who goes to a different church, yet this other person claims that the Holy Spirit has guided them into all truth as well. There cannot be differing and conflicting truths. The RCC has taught the same core Truths since the Church began 2000 years ago. Only the Orthodox Church can make the same claim for longevity (among Christian religions) but they deny the Papacy so I’m sticking with Rome.
