All that makes logical sense, but its just so chilling reading some of these real life stories on this site!

There is a poor lady getting the shaft big time from her so called christian catholic husband, and it looks like hes going to get a priest to help dump her! Thats just scary!

It’s scary wherever it’s coming from. I have a Protestant pastor friend (honest, I DO) who was crying on my shoulder about the men who come to him with marital troubles and tell him they’re SURE God wants them to be with the new girlfriend because God wouldn’t want them to be unhappy, would He?

Thats just as scary that people could think God wants them to dump their spouses for someone else! What if they think God wants them to kill their child!?
Personally, I just think the last thing this woman needs right now is this additional agony. I am trying to understand all this, I really am. But, that lady’s story is bone chilling. And now, costly to her when she needs to think about attorney’s fees! Her children, ect. How can one be clear minded in those things with this extra stuff flying around in their brain?

Unfortunately, people kill their children every day and consider it to be perfectly consistent with Christian living.

You have a lot of compassion; that is a very great gift. But at this point you have your own load to shoulder. I was just pointing out that trouble is everywhere. Getting it straight in our own back yard is sometimes about all we can do. When we’ve drained our own swamp we’re in a better position to “bear one another’s burdens.” God love you.

But, she could be me one day, if I end up converting, then converting my husband. Its not so much compassion (I guess it is, because I know about having a bad situation and dont wish it on anyone) as it is seeing that her situation could be mine, and do I have the ability to juggle so much at once? I know the answer to that is no right now. If my husband was going to divorce me, I would be unable to mentally multi task this if it were coupled with all the things added to it. I am not that strong.

I dont even like the idea of having to mentally revist my first husband. The hospital visits, the scars I still have on my body, (a rather large burn on my back from him pouring boiling water on me) and other things I cant mention here.

STOP!

You are fretting about things that are not in your basket – (but that IS a kind of compassion). I am concerned that you mention fear of divorce. But maybe it’s because you’ve been there. You are not in that place any more. Move OUT! (easier said than done. I know)

Sit back, take each breath as it comes. KNOW that you are on a precious journey, and I believe (from two days on the Internet? – take it for what it’s worth!) that it is from God.

I will be getting to talk to a priest soon, I think. If any non catholics have some things they think I should investigate before I continue to get too involved in this, let me know what they are so I can decide if its a matter of concern. I have seen some things already that don’t bother me that seem to be a concern for some. Okay, if there are other things let me know.
I’d suggest that your talk with the priest should be general as it’s important to be sure you are talking with someone with whom you would be able to discuss your situation including your concerns.

I think we all find some people easier to talk with than others and that some of this comes from personal characteristics, how much someone listens, how prescriptive they are, how they deal with questions, with doubts. You may be starting on a process and you need this first step to be positive and it would be positive either if you decided “yes, I can talk with him” or “it would be more helpful for me to find another priest I could talk more comfortably with”.

Why does Jesus call his followers towards a vow of poverity, yet the Pope, and the Vatican have so much wealth?

The Epicurean question is another good which I have yet to hear any sort of logical answer to.
What the hell is an ‘ignostic’ The pope owns nothing of his own after JPII died I think he left a rosary& a few books. the church has had money problems on and off quite frequently. i don’t recall the apostles taking a ‘vow of poverty’-please refresh my memory:eek:

Widow’s mite has nothing to do with a vow of poverty-Good try though:p

You scare me! Your first words start out so very, 😦

I tried to ask him kindly if he could distinguish the difference between what he thinks Jesus commanded, and what he actually never did, but not like this!

Woah.🤷

I would have pointed out, that the catholic church views its art (thats where most of its non liquid wealth lies in) as sacred, and who would want to store, and protect it (its costly!) properly?

Should the catholics sell it to muslims to burn it all?:nope:

I like it where it is frankly, safe and sound.

But, thats a non christian view.

Looks like the church has worked wonders for you.😛

“A certain ruler asked him, ‘Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?’ Jesus said to him, 'Why doyou call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; Honor your father and mother.’ He replied, ‘I have kept all these since my youth.’ When Jesus heard this, he said to him, 'There is still one thing lacking. Sell all that you own and distribute the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me. Jesus looked at him and said, ‘How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!’” [Lk. 18:18-23]

So…all the gold around the Vatican…what is it on loan or something?

Isambard, may I remind you that hijacking threads is against the rules? Please start your own thread on the supposed wealth of the Vatican.

Monica, this has generally been a good thread. I’ve been praying for that poor deserted wife and mother. I hope her husband grows up!

No priest has the power to get an annulment for a wayward husband. Each diocese has a Marriage Tribunal that looks into all the details involved and then decides if an annulment is warranted. It’s a grueling process–one meant to come to the truth of the matter. And if you read all the responses you saw that annulments are not handed out like candy.

I feel just as bad for that poor woman as you do. I can’t imagine her pain, but the Church didn’t cause the problems between her and her husband. And it is not the duty of the Church to make either of them behave as they ought to. The Church is a mother to her children not a police force. It can only do so much, but it does all it is allowed to do/can do in such situations.
