Is it legitimate to have a non-catholic music director for the liturgy? He also functions as a canter. If not were can I go to point this out.

There is a long tradition of those musicians who are interested in liturgical music working (and being permitted to work) at whichever churches of whichever denominations will employ them.

JS Bach, for example, worked mainly within the Lutheran tradition, but simultaneously composed numerous Catholic Masses. 🤷

Had to laugh when I read the post…I was envisioning a non-Catholic as an EMHC or something. 😃

At my college we got a Lutheran who plays the organ at mass. She’s very very good and that’s all she does. She doesn’t recieve the sacraments at mass or anything, so as long as she respects our practices and does her job well, I’m cool with it. Maybe Catholicism will seep in to her by osmosis 😃

I know a non-Catholic guy whose wife was Catholic who was asked to serve on the parish council. He and his family were so active in the parish that it was just assumed he was Catholic, too.

And maybe good organ music will sink into the neighboring parishes.
