Non-Catholics, what brought you to CAF?

I arrived because I was interested in how Catholics saw the world, I’ve stayed because being amongst people, most of whom are my ‘polar opposites’ attitudinally-speaking, has a strange fascination! 😉
 
I originally came via a Google search, trying to find out the origin of a Holy Week custom my mom had once told me about (she was a former Catholic-turned-Jewish.)

I stayed because a lot of posters began PMing me with questions about Judaism, and I decided to stick around to help answer them.

I came to learn more about the Catholic Faith (that’s how I answered the poll) but also because I had been (and still am) experiencing a desire to participate in the sacraments of the Church (which I understand can only be done as a Catholic).

I’ve stayed because I’ve been enjoying the fellowship and its been educational.

I came because I started attending a Catholic college populated with quite a few conservative Catholics, and realized I really should start doing some research about all these denominations, starting with the one which would be easiest to research considering my location. I was also thinking about the possibility of converting.

I’ve stayed because the conversations are interesting, and I’m able to keep on learning. I’m planning on majoring in theology, actually. But I don’t see conversion anywhere in my future.
 
A google search brought me here. I don’t even remember what I was hunting. 😃

I do remember what made me stay… a thread called “Protestants Hate Mary” My initial reaction was “WHAT!?!” I stayed and read a lot that day and the next and a few more … Saw so many wildly wrong things said about Protestants and only a couple people defending against it so I felt I had to stay and defend. So You guys all got stuck with me from there. 😛

Sounds like we got here the same way, a Google search. And we both stuck around for similar reasons…threads that caught our eye. For me, the threads that made me stay were the ones about trying to convert Jews…as a countermissionary naturally that made a red flag go up for me!

But in the time I have been here, I have made some truly decent friends, answered loads of questions from Catholics about Judaism, and even helped two Jews who had become Catholics return to Judaism (no, I did not seek them out, they privately contacted me.)
 
Came here hoping to find lively and friendly chat. Stayed for the same reasons as Syele and Sepharad.
 
I couldn’t help but notice that two people said they came to “annoy Catholics”. :hmmm:
 
I saw the annoy catholics thing too. I wonder if they’d have admitted it if the poll was public.

If they decided to post that response, they were probably being honest. Why else would you chose it unless to annoy people?
 
I looked up christian fora to disscuss bible topics and religions. First I entered one that was of Reformed Theology (Calvinistic) and did not like it. There was a list of other fora, several RC. When I investigated this one, there were welcoming comments, encouragment to non-catholic christians to participate, rules to keep civility in the discussions and a wide assortment of threads to choose from. I usually stay in apologetics-scriptures to be able to argue topics from a common point of view and not s.tradition or church polity. or personal opinions. The purpose of this web-site is for all involved to fine tune apologetic skills, and promote understanding. If the site had been for catholics only I would have respected it, but I understood the invitation to be real, genuine.
 
I find it surprising that nobody’s voted for “I came here to convert Catholics” yet. I’m fairly certain that’s the aim of certain unnamed individuals on this site…

Could be that it sounds to negative. If you had phrased it, “To enlighten Catholics.” Or “To show Catholics the error of their ways.”

Personally, I came here as the result of a search, and I stay… probably because I’m obsessive compulsive. :banghead:

I chose the last one. I’m bored and I have nothing better to do.

Have enjoyed listening to Catholic Radio, and am an admirer of the depth of scholarship and tradition in the Catholic church.

It’s important for all Christians to hang together, especially as the faith is attacked by secularists and those who follow false religions. Worrying about such issues as whether you can pray to the dead or what kind of attention to give Mary has to take a back seat to the survival of Christ’s body here on Earth.

Who was that clown who was in the news recently, the one who wanted to desecrate the Eucharistic host from a Catholic mass? That kind of gratuitous nastiness toward Christians is a symbol of what we’re up against.

Will all of us ever be in the same church together? I don’t see it happening this century. But all of us Christians have gotta refrain from peeing in each other’s soup.
