non-Catholics: why are you here?

I can’t remember what my specific purpose was the first time I came here. But although I am very much an Anglican, classical Anglicanism is much closer to Catholicism than it is to the “new” Anglicanism. I get really tired on most Anglican forums having to talk about whether whether sin is whatever society says, or Tradition has any place in the Church.

And the other side of the coin is, I would never want to interact with only people who think the same things as I do.

To those who don’t mind answering, I’m curious as to why you choose to be part of a Catholic forum. I would have zero interest in participating in the equivalent forum of another faith, so, again, just curious as to what you seek here.

1. I’m invited, welcomed.
2. I think mutual understanding is a GOOD thing.
3. The Catholics here share MUCH about Protestantism. I’m sure they all care deeply if what they say is correct since to do otherwise is to sin. It seems likely to ME the best source for what Protestants believe and do is Protestants (I suspect that is why we are invited to post here).
4. I’ve been Catholic and I’ve been Protestant. I’ve learned - powerfully and personally - that misunderstandings ABOUND - about equally on both “sides.” IMHO, this is not pleasing to the Lord of the church. If together we can correct some of these, that’s a worthy objective, IMHO.

This seems to be something he judged because of something he viewed with his eye. Would it do any good for us to explain Mary is honored and venerated, but not worshipped? If his opinion, based on what he saw, overrides explanations from Catholics, I fail to see the ‘respect’ of the entire post.

You know, I think he was simply reporting an honest observation. This is what it looked like, and this was how it affected him. The language was not the best, but I wonder if English was the posters first language? On a forum like this sometimes we need to figure out what a poster meant to say rather than blast him for the exact wording. Not everyone expresses themselves well in writing.

And I think his surprise was not that Mary was so honored, but that it seemed more emphasis was on Mary than Christ - not that he thought Catholics were worshiping Mary in the same way as Christ.

And finally, you have no evidence that an explanation of Catholic views on Mary would be ignored by the poster, you are making assumptions.

Like many here, I too am not Catholic. I have family that is Catholic however as well as many good friends who are. I have always been interested in learning about other faiths. Recently, though, I feel more of a need to explore the Catholic faith. That is why I am here. [BIBLEDRB][/BIBLEDRB]

Maybe you didn’t understand my post. Below is part of what I stated, with emphasis.
