Non-Catholics: Why are you here?

Baptist? You threw me off with your religion “Jesus Buddhist”. 😉
The good thing about being Baptist is, you’re always Baptist, even if you are also Buddhist.

Baptist born, Baptist bred, and when I die, I’ll be Baptist (and Buddhist) dead.😃

Confusing. It works differently if you’re not Baptist .

At one tim I was thinking about Catholicism, which is how I first came here. But now I just like to discuss theology and Christian living. Also, I think the divisions within Christianity are a bad thing, and so it is important to understand them and ultimately try to reconcile them in a meaningful way.

It’s possible to combine Taoism and/or Zen with Christian belief, because both have very little doctrine, and none that I can think of that contradicts Christianity. The Trappist monk, Thomas Merton, was a Zen Catholic of sorts.

Other than Zen, the only form of Buddhism I have personal experience with is Nichiren Shoshu, which I can confidently say is not Christian-compatible.

Yeah, this. There is a remote possibility that I might convert to Catholicism, though Orthodoxy is more likely. But mainly I don’t consider the divisions between our faith traditions to be a good thing, and I don’t think any of the three traditions has all the answers.

That would be the Real Presence! You won’t find what you are looking for anywhere else.

👍
Hi Juliane! Didn’t you start a thread just like this a few weeks ago? Guess it’s a common question, understandably.
What’s the Real Presence? Is that like the Eurcharist?

I guess there is only one way to know for sure. But I’m pretty sure there is a Lifeguard on duty in case I can’t.
I came across a thread on Orthodoxy on this forum one day and saw a few misconceptions, so I decided to join in order to give my two cents. I have learned some good things through participating on this forum, so I decided to stay.

According to the Catholic Church, the mark of baptism remains with you forever, meaning that once baptized, one is forever “Christian” (and baptism under Trinitarian formulation also mean that one is, albeit imperfectly, 'Catholic" even).

Why am I here?

To practice dialoguing with other faiths, to address misconceptions of (Neo)Paganism (of which there are many, simple curiosity. I post on a few Pagan boards already, but I’ve never posted on a forum which had a religious affiliation that wasn’t my own.

I am here because I am very interested in Catholicism and I am thinking about converting. CAF is a great source of infomation and has nice users who are willing to answer your questions.

And by the way Im not here to argue.

I found the CAF while researching how the Catholic Church felt about interchurch marriages. I started posting because there was a thread in this forum called “Do Baptists really hate Catholics?” that I thought needed addressing. Needless to say, there have been plenty of opportunities to correct misconceptions held by my Catholic brothers and sisters in Christ. This forum also always provides an opportunity to learn more about the beliefs of the RCC which satisfies my intellectual curiosity.
