Non-Catholics: Why do you post here?

First, I welcome everyone to post here, this is not a complaint. Rather, I’m curious why non-Catholics visit this forum. I’m sure it’s for different reasons.

Are you here to learn about the RCC?

Are you here to “save” Catholics?

Are you here because you enjoy discussing religion?

What are your reasons?

I post here occassionally to answer those who ask questions about my faith. I do so because I enjoy talking to people who don’t know and want a straight answer.

I feel like somebody should be here to point out all the lies that people are spreading about Islam. And it keeps me on my toes to stay fresh on the regular kinds of attacks on Islam. And posting here is a constant reminder to me that the way I speak is so often more important than what I actually say.

If I wanted to learn about Catholicism, I wouldn’t look in this forum, where Catholicism is as poorly represented and maligned (by the character of the most aggressive posters) as any other religion.

If I wanted to learn about Catholicism, I wouldn’t look in this forum, where Catholicism is as poorly represented and maligned (by the character of the most aggressive posters) as any other religion.

I am fortunate enough to have a good friend, a Muslim (ironically, he went to a Jesuit university), who has explained Islam to me. While I obviously disagree with certain aspects of Islam, I think that most people have a poor understanding of what Muslims believe (not just the radicals you see on TV). I also agree with you that there are some loud, obnoxious posters who can turn anyone off. Christianity teaches that we should be charitable towards others, especially when we are explaining our faith.

Many folks don’t realize it but Catholics and Mormons have had a great relationship over the years out here in the west where I live. An intersting note: I am given to believe we have more Catholic converts than from any other denomination. It seems to be an easier transition than to other religious denominations. Maybe it is because we believe we came from the same starting place and share so many ideas.

Perhaps it is because you target people in countries where the population is largely Catholic.

That is part of the reason but the important part is that they find a reason to convert and that it isn’t as difficult as to others denominations who consider Catholicism evil. But we have always enjoyed a good relationship with Catholics in the west in particular.

I live in SLC. The two churches share a lot of things. Mainly the LDS church and its members support our charities, in the form of donations of time and money. The MoTab is performing this summer in celebration of our Cathedral’s 100 year anniversary. I see Mormons at Mass now and then. Especially on holidays.

There are also many LDS converts to Catholicism here.

That’s the truth! I figure that we dissect and discuss the same issues over and over again, neither side giving an inch, but the Holy Spirit does the rest and I’m thankful for that since I’m no good at debating such things.

No, that’s the work of our Lord and Savior, and He does quite well with Catholics without my help.

Yes, and sometimes to correct misunderstandings about Lutheranism.

I also think this forum is extremely beneficial in that way. I have a tendency to get pretty defensive because when someone is saying something derogatory or misrepresenting my faith, I take it as someone saying something bad about my Mother and I’m quick to defend. It is a fault of mine, but I pray for charitable conversation and discussion with other believers and non-believers. Thanks for posting.

Yes, and also to help Catholics understand Lutherans. Note, I said “understand” and not “agree with,” although that would be nice.

From what? Taking a cue from my Lutheran brother, Jon, our Lord has already done that.

Yes. I enjoy these discussions because they force me to look at Lutheran theology and my own faith more closely. And, of course, I’m always happy to learn more about Catholicism.

There are two main reasons why I post here:

1. to get people to question not only “Which religion?” but “Why religion?”.
2. I’m a debator at heart, and religion is always debatable (particularly Catholicism).

No, I can’t. I really don’t know why, that’s why I posed the question. I don’t post on Protestant forums so I don’t know what would motivate that. So, why do you post here?
