Are non-Christian marriages valid e.g. Islamic marriages?

Yes, the Church recognizes the marriages of non-Catholics as valid.

If the non-Catholics are both baptized, the marriage is valid and a sacrament. If one or both of the non-Catholics are unbaptized the marriage is a valid natural marriage.
 
Would it then be safe to say the couples that live in sin are the baptized Christians that get married by civil law not in a Church?

For Catholics who are free to marry and have given free consent, the marriage must be conducted in the approved “form” or a proper dispensation from form must be received. This is a valid and sacramental marriage.

Whether there was fornication in advance has no bearing on the validity nor sacramentality of the marriage.
 
So all marriages in all forms are valid from the Church’s point of view?

What about Catholics that do not get married in the Church but get married by the civil court?

The covenant of natural marriage existed before Christ raised it to the dignity of a sacrament, and continues to exist today among the unbaptized.

It the verb *contracted *causes you problems, substitute the verb enacted (or some other benign word) in my prior post. :rolleyes:

Such marriages would not be valid. Catholics are bound by Church teachings and Canon Law.
 
If two Non-Christians practice fornication would they be guilty of sin?

Why are atheists bound to marriage in order to avoid sin if they do not believe in God?

Whether one sins or not does not necessarily depend on belief in God.

In fact, according to CCC 2125, atheism itself is a sin.
 
Random question out of curiosity. If two non christians were married and got a divorce and later one of them decided to convert to Catholicism would he/she need to get an annulment to remarry?
