I was born catholic, baptized, confession, received communion even went to catholic elementary/middle school. Now I am an adult who was never confirmed and I want to belong to the church. What do I do?

Contact your local Catholic Church and ask what they need for an adult to prepare for Confirmation. It will probably be something attached to their RCIA or other religious education program and you’ll be confirmed at Easter time.
They can “hook you up” from there.

- Pick up a bulletin: Go to confession, can be at a shrine or at your nearby Parish that you wish to attend. Confession times are listed in the bulletin, but, a Priest may available for confession by special request!
- Attend Mass on Sundays. You can go to a shrine for Mass. Wherever you are, find a Mass to attend.
- Register at the near to home Parish.
- The Parish bulletin has a list of names of who is in charge of what. Call the person for adult catechesis and tell them that you want to be confirmed. Holy oils are stored in the Church, and they may be kept in a visible place, so ask them to show you where! You may be confirmed wherever it is possible, but, I would assume it would be your nearby Parish.
- It is true that adults are confirmed on Saturday evening Mass, the Easter Vigil Mass. It may be that permission to confirm an adult may given by the Bishop, for other times. Certainly the young people have a specific time. They prepare by doing good works and retreats.

One more thing, brother. Don’t forget to go to the mass. Join one of the church activity. Try to join one of the retreat they are conducting.

Actually, by virtue of your Catholic baptism, you are already a member of the Church! It’s like being a US citizen. The fact that you’re not registered to vote doesn’t mean you aren’t a citizen. The fact that you’re not registered with a parish doesn’t mean you aren’t Catholic.
Parishes are territorial. That means that every parish has a certain geographical boundry, and every Catholic who lives within that territory is a member of that parish.
(There are some exceptions, but please, let’s not get into that one…)
Call or stop by the nearest Catholic church. Tell them you’re a Catholic who would like to register (if you don’t live in the territory, they’ll direct you to the proper parish).
Talk to the pastor or one of the other priests. He’ll guide you.
As for Confirmation, the RCIA program might be appropriate for you (sounds that way at least), or it might not. You should tell the priest that you haven’t yet been confirmed and he’ll take it from there.
It would help if you contact the parish where you were baptised and ask them for your baptismal certificate. This is a routine thing and it’s not at all a big deal. That will help when you register at your new parish.

Many many have reached adulthood without confirmation. I don’t know what archdiocese you are in. Here in Baltimore they tend to run a abbreviated preparation program once or twice a year for those interested in confirmation without joining a group of teens. The last batch were confirmed at the Basilica two weeks ago. Check to see if your own archdiocese has a similar program.

Thank you all so much for your help!!! I knew I would have to speak to our priest but I didn’t want to go in there empty handed. Also thank you for your help in directing me were to post. I am knew ans still getting used to how this blog works. I look forward to getting back evolved in the church is so important to me. I recently got out of the service and now want to devote a lot of my time to the church.

Wow! Awesome! welcome home!
First a couple of points of clairification.
The Sacrament od Baptism you alreadt received makes you a Catholic. (So you are a Catholic)
The Sacrament of Confirmation aids us in learning our faith and in living our faith, so getting Confirmed is a GREAT idea!
As you “are a Catholic” all that you technically need to do is to began a proper practice of our faith.
That means start with a Good Confession
Attend Mass at least every Sunday and Holy day’s (more often the better)
Receive Holy Communion worthily, meaning without Mortal sin, and being aware that you really are receiving the Very Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity, of our Risen Lord. Not a sign, not a symbol, bur Jesus Himself.
It might be a good idea to sign up for your parish RCIA program, and get a refresher course on the teachings of Jesus, for the ONLY Church that He Himself founded?
As others have suggested, take your concerns to your pastor.

Absolutely! It also makes us soldiers for Christ! Soldiers for the faith so that we can stand up for Christ and for our Catholic faith! That is why it is so important to learn the faith as much as it is possible. We need more good Catholics who know the Catholic faith to actually stand up for the Catholic faith. We have too many anti-Catholics who try to tear us down and tear the Church down. We are in need of a good army of soldiers who are willing to stand up for the faith even to the point of dying to themselves and living for Christ!

You mean like the exceptions of shrines? Or maybe a monastery?
Not for registration, but for retreats, confession, Daily & Sunday Masses, inquiries, bookshops/giftshops, special **requests **(of God,) consultations, places of quiet? I think that some people, returning to the faith, gravitate to shrines and monasteries for help!

I said that parishes are territorial, meaning that a Catholic parish is not just a church located “some place” and Catholics simply choose which parish they prefer. A parish is not the same thing as a church (though many Catholics often think in those terms). Catholics are members of a given parish by virtue of where they live, and not where they choose to go to Mass, or might like to join. There are exceptions for parishes that are established for certain groups of people, like ethnic parishes for example, and sometimes parish boundaries might overlap to a certain degree, or be vague. Again, let’s just not get into that one. Please.
