Sherlock:
I will freely admit that I am an impatient person: after repeated attacks on the Church (and no response to questions raised) my impatience shows and it’s hard for me to be kind and loving.
**Hold to patience in your hearts, my friends, and put it into action when the situation calls for it. Don’t let any abusive word from your neighbor stir up hatred in you, and don’t allow any loss of things that pass away to upset you. If you are steadfast in fearing the loss of those things that last forever, you will never take seriously the loss of those that pass away; if you keep your eyes fixed on the glory of our eternal recompense, you will not resent a temporal injury. You must bear with those who oppose you, but also love those you fear with. Seek an eternal reward in return for your temporal losses. **
St. Gregory the Great

**True patience consists in bearing calmly the evils others do to us, and in not being consumed by resentment against those who inflict them. Those who only appear to bear the evils done them by their neighbors, who suffer them in silence while they are looking for an opportunity for revenge, are not practicing patience, but only make a show of it. **
St. Gregory the Great

I am not passing judgement on you Sherlock. I too, struggle with impatience. I could not resist posting these wonderful quotes from St Gregory the Great when you mentioned your lack of patience. 🙂

Thanks, Mickey! I might print those out and tape them to the computer monitor…

Hi
There is no confusion when the individuals I’m talking about are the ones doing the teaching, you can’t seperate them, although
I can see why you would want to.
Thanks
And your point would be?

If your married preacher is having an affair, does that make his sermons and his baptisms etc invalid?

I’d put down that stone and step away from the glass house if I were you…

Loboto-Me]You still haven’t answered the question… why is it that the Bible is teaching you one thing, and another member of your church something else?
Hi
The Bible teaches many things to many people. As long as it isn’t a salvation issue then it doesnt matter if a parable says something different to you than it does me.
So you count on your pastors authority and his version of what the gospel is saying? How do you handle today’s issues such as abortion (that’s not a biblical issue), what about other modern issues that aren’t in the scriptures?
Since when is murdering not a Biblical issue?
Thanks.

So much for the principle that the Holy Spirit teaches an Universal Truth.

It’s strange that some non-denomination and denomination ppl have justified abortion (killing people) isn’t it? Same Holy Spirit? They claim to be guided by Him as well.

Staying on the same subject as murdering people, why would you, and I have different views coming from the bible when all these people are justifying their abortions… now I’d think that “Do not murder” would be a salvation issue, yet some claim that abortion, baptism, the way to repent and confess, and many other biblical commandments are guided by the Holy Spirit, except, if that’s so, that would mean that the Holy Spirit is confused or plays games with human beings. Are these issues not a matter of salvation?

Hi
I’m against abortions, it is murder. Baptism, repentence and confession are salvation issues because scripture is very clear on these issues. I can’t help it if some people don’t believe these things. My sister-in-law (who is a Catholic)believes in reincarnation, but I don’t think that all Catholics believe that. It boggles my mind that “Baptist” don’t believe that Baptism is all that important, or that they believe in OSAS, when scripture warns us of falling away.
Thanks

Your sister may call herself a Catholic, but a belief in reincarnation is against clear Catholic teaching. It doesn’t matter if she and perhaps others believe in it: we don’t determine “truth” by polling. So, despite what she might think, she is not a Catholic in good standing, but unfortunately a Catholic who lacks proper instruction at best, or is a dissenting Catholic at worst. But note the crucial difference here: Catholic teaching provides a standard by which one’s views can be judged. That is why St. Paul refers to the Church as “the pillar and foundation of truth”. Plenty of Baptists believe, as you say, that Baptism isn’t important; or in OSAS; but they are using the same standard that you are (The Bible and the claimed guidance of the Holy Spirit) yet coming up with different doctrines. These are not un-essential matters, either.

Also, did you know that abortion used to be considered OK by the Southern Baptist Convention? They were using the Bible and the Holy Spirit for that one, too.
