That’s another thing I want to point out…I keep getting this Bible Seed Plan stuff from this non-denomination church called Saint Matthews Church…or I should say it’s ecumenical. Anyway, for about a couple months, they keep sending me this info like “God can and will bless you financially, spiritually, etc.” and all this stuff. I can’t quite explain it because it’s so bizarre!

Like they’ll send me this paper that says, “Please reply the card back in the mail and we’ll send you this free book to know how you can be blessed…” and I’m reading it and thinking, well, sure, but why not pray to God anyway? DUH! Also, they brag in a way by giving you a paper with “quotes” with people who’ve been blessed just because they followed what Saint Matthews’ churches said to do in the paper! That really turns me off!

So what I do? Just ignored it and didn’t send anything. Then about three weeks later, I get the same garbage in the mail, again, do nothing, then last week I got it aaain and I had to laugh because the paper said something like, “maybe the card we sent you to send back to us got lost in the mail so we’re sending you another one…” and like I posted before to respect all Christians, I don’t want to be rude and not reply to them but on the other hand, I’d rather stick to the CC!

Anyone get these strange things in the mail? I don’t know how they got my address!

Been there, got that too. We get a lot from Catholic places we never heard of, too.

Snake oil salesmen. They’ll sell you a Stairway to Heaven.

The most Christian thing is probably to respond (go ahead and use their return postage or be extra nice and add a stamp) and tell them you no longer wish to receive this information. However, I would be pleased to tell you about the Roman Catholic Church, which I assume you will want to hear about if you continue to include me on your mailing list.

Next, if your conscience is no better formed than mine, if they continue to send you information, I would begin to send them articles about the Catholic Faith in their handy return envelopes. We can refer them to CA website, and invite them to ask us questions about Catholicism so we can help them find the real truth. 😃

It is not against postal regulations I wouldn’t think, because this is business reply mail. They sent you a business proposition involved the exchange of money for intangible gifts. You are simply offering them alternative intangible gifts that you feel they could use to improve their product line.

I just stick CA tracts in their envelopes and send it back to them. If they don’t like it then they will stop sending me the junk mail. If they read it then hopefully they get something out of it.

I agree with Alan’s view on this.

Ditto.

Once I got something from Planned Parenthood (or some organization of that ilk) with a postage-paid return envelope. I taped it to a brick and mailed it back. The next day my mailman brought it back to me, saying that according to postal regulations he couldn’t send it on to the addressee, but that everybody in the post office had gotten a good laugh out of it.

I receive alot of junk mailings from St. Matthews Church.

The latest one involved a “prayer” paper hankerchief( ). All I had to do was say a prayer over this piece of paper and then mail it back to them. I did pray,That this piece of paper would NOT jam up my paper shredder… 😃

Notice that on their mailings, there is NO e-mail addy information?

I might do a Google search later if I remember.

Yeah, I got something like that. I went to their website and tried to contact them by e-mail and they have NO e-mail whatsoever which is pathetic! It makes you wonder if it’s really a church?

If they send me one more thing, I’m going to write them a little note saying, please stop sending me stuff!

Isn’t that idolatry - worshipping a piece of paper? Or a graven image thing or something like that
:hmmm: Seems I’ve heard those terms before :ehh:

You:D think like me!..Seriously, if anybody keeps sending me mail I don’t want, after I have asked it to stop, I have found that what you can do through the mail, is that I gather up all the junk mail that I would have put in the recycle box, put it in their postage paid envelope, & send it all to them.
I have yet to receive a repeat mailing from any place that I did this…It is a last resort, but it does work!

I got something from St. Matthew’s! It was the mailing with the “prayer napkin” or whatever. My daughter is 4 and draws on anything she can find so I gave it to her. I have no idea how they got my address either. If I remember correctly it asked that I write down my needs on the napkin, fold it and keep it in a certain page of the Bible for several days, pray and then send it to them and they would pray, too. Then all my prayers would be answered. The advice to pray was the only worthwhile part and I certainly didn’t need a mailing to get that idea. The whole thing seemed like it was created by a disordered mind. It was so chaotic with typewritten parts, parts that were “handwritten”, different colored ink and different sizes of type and writing.

Zooey,

If I may offer one more thing for a real “last resort,” you can go to the Post Office and take out a prohibitory order against them. Federal law allows someone who is receiving unwanted mail to go declare that this is a “pandering advertisement” and that the sender is no longer to send mail to him. The last time I did this, there was some discussion, but the law says that you in your sole discretion have the right to decide whether what you receive is a “pandering advertisement.” The mailing does have to offer services in exchange for some form of payment, but I was able to convince the Post Office that my listening to a certain radio station was a form of payment to the radio station’s owners. If after receiving a prohibitory order the people send you anything else they can be fined or perhaps go to prison.

its a scam…there’s a lot of scams out there operating under the non-denominational tags to try and get your money…there are also other ministries out there selling this idea as well…i think its rediculous…you are only obligated to give 10% of your income…whatever else you give is up to you…and as the holy spirit directs…i usually don’t give to people unless i know they are working at what they’re doing…meaning i know they are producing fruit with their work…and i don’t need other people to pray for me via card through mail…i can have people from my church pray for me if need be…anyways…there was a study done on st. matthews church from one of the local news stations here where i live and the money cannot be traced…its a dead end…i beleive its a scam…
