I have a close friend of mine who used to be attracted to the Church and devotion to Mary, but couldn’t join because of her parents, I don’t know where she stands now.

This friend is now about be married in a Protestant service, and I just want to ask, how concerned I should be over this, what’s the nature of a non-Sacramental marriage?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not judging her or anything, I’m glad she has someone special in her life. But I do sort of have feelings of guilt over not praying for her, and not doing more to help her, because I believe she has the potential to be a really great Saint. So I just to know how concerned I should be over this.

If neither she nor her husband were never Catholic the marriage would be seen as valid by the Catholic Church. If they are both baptized it is sacramental.

Not at all concerned.

She is not a Catholic. Therefore, she is not bound by the Catholic canon laws on marriage as they pertain to the form of marriage.

If she and her fiancé are baptized, their marriage will be a sacrament. If one or both are unbaptized, it will be a valid natural marriage.

She grew up in a Catholic household and I think even went to a Catholic School, but her parents left the Faith, I’m not sure how old she was when that happened, and she understood about it.
