Why is it called Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus? Can we say of Jesus instead of the child Jesus? Sorry, I am not familiar with her story.

“It” is the name she chose – nuns often chose devotional titles as part of their name (and in some orders still do). She is St Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face.Why is it called Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus? Can we say of Jesus instead of the child Jesus? Sorry, I am not familiar with her story.

Read her story or even a summary of it. She was like a child before Jesus, so it sums up how she came to God, in humility. She did not come with big theories or great knowledge and understanding, just as a child, with great love. She used to say she could not do great things only little things with great love. It is her ‘Little way’ for which she is best known. It is a great way for us, cos we can follow it even though we are not great, we can do little things for people often and with great love.

When she took her religious name as a Carmelite nun, she took the name “Sister Therese of the Child Jesus.” I believe she was allowed to add “and the Holy Face” sometime later.
In her writings and in her talking with the other sisters in her community, she often referred to herself as a little toy in the hands of the Child Jesus. He could use her in whatever way He wished, or He could completely ignore her – she surrendered herself completely to the will of God.

If Saint Therese choose to mane herself Saint Therese of the Child Jesus, we should name her like that, not only of “Jesus”.
Therese is born in a Catholic family in Alençon, Normandy, France. She died as a carmelite at 24, after enter in at a very young age, with papal dispensation. She died at Lisieux, so she is called Sainte Thérèse de Lisieux too.
She is a doctor of the Church (not a lot of women, saint Catherine of sienna, and Saint Hildegard of Bingen too).
She concepted and choose to live her “little way” of love…
Their parents, Louis and Zelie Martin are the first couple beatified and canonized as a couple in the Church History.
Her devotion is very popular.
Lisieux’s Basilica, build after her, is a great spiritual center.
As la maison natale des époux Martin à Alençon.
This year it is the jubilee of the weeding birthday of her parents.

There are a lot of saints with similar names, using their accurate name with the correct spelling let’s people know who you are talking about… She isn’t the only St. TheresaWhy is it called Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus? And besides, there is already a St. Theresa of Jesus: that is St. Theresa of Avila.
St. Therese of Liseux chose the name “of the Child Jesus” specifically selecting the mystery of his childhood for her religious name, much like the celebration of the Holy Infant of Prague, for example. Or how Edith Stein selected “of the Cross”, thereby adopting the mystery of the Passion for her religious name (incidentally, also Teresa).

It is important that you use St Teresa of the Infant Jesus or St Thérèse of Lisieux, since St Teresa of Jesus is the reformer of the Carmelite order (also known as St Teresa of Avila).

“St. Therese of the Child Jesus and of the Holy Face” is the actual professed name for St. Therese of Lisieux and as someone else said refers to her special devotion to Jesus as a child, and her own desire to be childlike in Jesus’ sight. You don’t just go changing someone’s professed name.
