Hi all,

There was a thread a while back which mentioned the Norbertines, and someone asked whether they are represented beyond California.

They are.

In fact, their abbey in Pennsylvania is having a “come & see” weekend in October.

Here is the info for any who are interested:
WEEKEND OF DISCERNMENT
Friday, October 5th to Sunday, October 7th, 2007
Are you a young man between the ages of 18-45 who is discerning God’s will in your life?
If so, why not spend a Fall weekend with us here at Daylesford Abbey and take time to “listen” to how the Lord is speaking to you.
Please join us from Friday evening, October 5th to Sunday, October 7th, 2007, for a weekend of prayer, liturgy, reflection, discussion, communio, and Norbertine hospitality at its best. For more infomation or to make a reservation for the weekend, please phone Fr. Bill Kelly, O. Praem., Vocation Director, at 610-647-2530 ext. 115.
Hope you can join us!
I don’t know much about the order, but the fact that they use the word “communio” – rather than “community” or even “communion” in the info blurb means that at least someone over there has his head screwed on straight.

Here is the web address of the Abbey daylesford.org/discernment.shtml

Has anyone visited them? I’d like to visit a Norbertine house, but I don’t want to discover after being there that the particular community is “unorthodox”.

I would go with an open mind and form your own opinion.

Many people have opinions about the “orthodoxy” of a group but with out first hand experience it amounts to nothing more than gossip.

My experience with the Norbertines on the west coast (I know it is a different province) has been very positive. Their priests are orthodox. I went to a Norbertine parish and went through RCIA with them a few years ago. I had been in RCIA in two other parishes that were basically Catholic-lite, but not with the Norbertines. We went straight through the Compendium of the Catechism (other RCIA programs I was in we got to write our own creeds and come up with our own names for God ). They are known for being solid in CA.

I have a friend who visited the Norbertine during his vocations search. He said they are a very orthodox order, very loyal to the Magisterium.

Cheers,
Ben
