i get tormented from time to time sometimes a whole day or two and it leaves me thinking if i have commited grave sin. i am talking about unwanted thoughts and images.

Like the other day in the car i was stoped at the lights and a couple crossed the road and i was looking at them for a while. then it was like a image was created in my mind and after a few seconds i relized i was looking at the impure image i got out of it and shook my head and it disappered.

things like this always happens to me however if i relizes i am looking at an image in my mind and get out of it i am safe right and able to take comunion

~looks around~ Nobody answered you yet? jk 😛

The answer to your question is no, it was not a grave sin. In fact, it wasn’t a sin at all. The fact that you used “was created” in that tense suggests that it simply popped into your head. You had absolutely no consent to that thought (in fact, you probably didn’t even really “realize” what you were thinking for a while). No consent means no sin. You did your part by rejecting that thought. That is a very good thing. Impure thoughts are only sinful (and you are right to assume graveness) if you embrace the thought and willfully continue to entertain it. So be at ease! 👍 The devil likes to plant those kinds of things in our heads, though, so just keep praying (like all of us have to) and God will give you the grace.

God bless you and may Mary pray for you!

you aren’t responsible for images that just pop into your head. The only time it becomes a sin is when you focus on them and dwell on them.

Like when someone cuts me off in traffic. Certain images pop into my head, I just can’t dwell on them! 😉

Entertaining thoughts is not a sin. It’s a sin when you let the thoughts entertain YOU.

3 prerequisites for a mortal sin according to the Church:
  1. It is a serious sin.
  2. You know ahead of time it is a serious sin.
  3. You do it anyway, of your own free will.
Thoughts entering your head is not a serious sin. Dwelling on them, however, leads to lust. You can see where I am going with this…

also when someone mentions something like somebody slipped and did the splits right away a impure image is in my head of her for example doing to slips.

also

just looking at somebody of the oppersite sex makes me have impure thoughts and images but how do i know werether it is not me who is starting them and not temptation that is the one thing i have problems with.

i dont carry on with them and try to ignore them right away but what about.

this is one of my biggest probelms at the moment and i can not seem to get rid of it once and for all.

well when i take a look to see what is therewouldn’t that be focusing on the thought

Bud, you have to understand the difference between sin and temptation. Don’t be like Luther, seeing corruption behind every corner. We are tempted, but through grace, we can master it, sin has no hold over us. If you have to, take a retreat. Isolate yourself. Spend time in an adoration chapel. I went to a monastery in the desert out here in New Mexico. Spend time in prayer. You will notice that the struggle gets easier.

A good priest can help you. These people posting have given good advise, but you should still get a regular confessor. Tell him the state of your soul and he can help you understand things better.

I’ll be saying what others have said but thought by doing so it’ll strengthen them … .

When the thought comes again, tell the Lord you do not want any part of it and then say one Our Father. If you have the time, another one Hail Mary, … 😉

Sinful thought is not a sin. We are tempted one too often and that’s normal. It is a small sin though if you indulge in entertaining it. It would be a bigger sin if you actually act on it.

If it’s more than just a thought it could be oppression. For that you may need help. Talk to your priest so that he can hear your confession, advice and bless you .

Don’t worry. Pray more, read the Bible, receive the Sacraments regularly and avoid finding yourself in unChristian activities.

God bless you.
