i get tormented from time to time sometimes a whole day or two and it leaves me thinking if i have commited grave sin. i am talking about unwanted thoughts and images.

Like the other day in the car i was stoped at the lights and a couple crossed the road and i was looking at them for a while. then it was like a image was created in my mind and after a few seconds i relized i was looking at the impure image i got out of it and shook my head and it disappered.

things like this always happens to me however if i relizes i am looking at an image in my mind and get out of it i am safe right and able to take comunion

Sometimes we can’t really control the thoughts and images that come into our minds. I, myself, have had problems with them from time to time. Just pray for mercy and deliverance. If it really bothers you, you could always ask to see your priest and discuss it with him.

It might also help if you pray for the grace to be pure in thought and deed as you go throughout your day.

For example:

Dear God, I humbly ask for the grace to be pure in thought and deed as I go about my day.

A simple prayer like this is powerful.

God bless

Talk to a priest and find a good spiritual director to help you sort through this.

We cannot sin accidentally. Thoughts can pop into our head accidentally. It’s what we do when that happens that matters. Do we dwell on those thoughts, or do we shake our head so they disappear?

Don’t succumb to scrupulosity. Just be sure not to indulge in the thoughts when they come and you’ll be fine.

Your phrase, “i am talking about unwanted thoughts and images” dispenses you of any sin. Unwanted equates to unwilled. All sin is willed.

Praying the “Lord’s Prayer” emaphasizing the petition to " lead us not into temptation" may be a method for you to moderate and eventually eliminate these unwanted thoughts.

You got some good advice here. Just let those thoughts go. Remember that satan would want nothing more than for you to think that you are always in sin and not “worthy” to receive the Eucharist. While none of us are ever worthy, we must seek Christ in this sacrament for strength to overcome the temptations like what you describe. Jesus loves us and knows our struggles. And the understanding of struggle suggests our need for Christ…teachccd 🙂

also when someone mentions something like somebody slipped and did the splits right away a impure image is in my head of her for example doing to slips.

just looking at somebody of the oppersite sex makes me have impure thoughts and images but how do i know werether it is not me who is starting them and not temptation that is the one thing i have problems with.

i dont carry on with them and try to ignore them right away but what about.

this is one of my biggest probelms at the moment and i can not seem to get rid of it once and for all.

It is a sign of developing spiritual maturity to recognize a temptation for what it is.

We should know ourselves well enough to begin to see patterns of what tempts us. And, we should recognize, as scripture teaches, that we are engaged in spiritual warfare every day of our lives. Expect it.

We can see the warfare in the overnight news, that the government of Italy now wants the crucifix to be removed from state-run school classrooms. As long as those crucifixes end up in people’s homes, then that will be at least a silver lining to this sad story.

But, pray, pray, pray for God’s help in resisting temptation. Know your limits.

Adam and Eve sinned by “becoming like gods,” that is, deciding for themselves what is right and wrong, instead of obeying God’s commands. It is a key strategy to keep God in control of our life, not the next billboard, DVD, or etc. that calls out to us to sin.

Are you a young male teenager, perchance? 😉 I reiterate my advice to find a good spiritual director and/or talk to a priest. This will help you tremendously in working through this issue.

I am not a spiritual director and I do not know you personally, but from what you have posted, it seems as though you very much do not want these thoughts to pop into your head. Thoughts do pop into your head about the opposite sex, particularly for young males. It gets better as you get older provided you take steps now to not indulge in those thoughts.

The thoughts are not going to disappear all at once (most likely) and may never be gone for good (you are, after all, a man and God has hard-wired us to be attracted to women, which is a good thing provided we do not succumb to sin). It simply takes time and prayer. This is the cross the Lord has given you to carry at this moment. Cling to Christ through this and you will grow in your spiritual life. Then, gradually, things will improve. Even if they don’t improve, though, do no get discouraged. Simply continue to place your trust in the Lord.

I don’t know if this will help you, but in the morning before I start the day and during the day I say this little prayer to the Holy Spirit.

“Let me think the thoughts of Jesus, speak the words of Jesus and do the deeds of Jesus in all situations during this day.”

This has helped me so many times.
