I’ve been reading that you can’t go to confession unless you are truly sorry for all your sins. Not just sorry for some but for ALL of them.

This seems harsh to me and it’s the reason I can’t go to confession.
The sin I’m not sorry for is a mortal sin according to saintaquinas.com/mortal_sin.html

So if I get run over by a bus tomorrow I know where I’m going. I also understand that I have no business receiving communion. I don’t think I’ll ever truly be sorry.

So unless I get change of heart my soul is going to be toast. Period.

About the only answer I can think of is that I need to have some kind of holy brainwashing take place that will make me change my mind and suddenly become sorry. I have to imagine that here are millions of Catholics in this same situation.

Am I being theologically correct here ? Thank you.

You can have sorrow for your sin because you fear Hell and the loss of Heaven. It is called imperfect contrition and it is enough to be able to receive absolution in confession.

That being said, we should all strive for perfect contrition, sorrow for our sins because we love God.

Spend some time in front of the Blessed Sacrament.

You are allowed to go to Confession even if the only reason you’re sorry is that you fear Hell.

It’s better to be sorry because you don’t want to displease God, but --Jesus wants to forgive you. 🙂 He loves us! He’s willing to use even fear of punishment as the opportunity for forgiveness.
There is more joy in Heaven :dancing: over one lost sheep who is rescued…:dancing: Go to Him, halfawake, let Him bring you home.

Just for the pupose of clarity: even with this imperfect contrition, you still need the intention to not commit the sin again, don’t you?

You have received some very good advise. You say that you refuse to give up this sin. Why? What is really more important to your life, this sin or returning God’s love?

I suggest that you find a knowledgable confessor whom you highly respect for his high degree of faith and moral integrity. Make an appointment that gives you time for a lengthy discussion. Bring up the “sin” that you refuse to repent of and talk it over with him. You may be confused on what you are calling a mortal sin ,as while the subject may be a grave matter, does your action really conform to the fulll definition of mortal sin. Also, such a priest will be able to give you spiritual advise that will help you over time.

Personally, if I knew that I am in mortal sin, I would not want to gamble on heaven or hell. I think I’d strive to overcome that sin or avoid it – even if I had to go to confession everyday for the rest of my life. Satan would love nothing better than to give up and give into such sin, rejecting God. The sacrament of reconciliation is a powerful force against Satan’s treachery, as Satan loves darkness and remaining hidden, and hates truth and light and flees it. So, I recommend going often to confession no matter how often you fail!

Don’t give up Confession, friend! Keep going anyways! It will help you to grow in spite of yourself, it will help you to change your heart. So keep going!! 👍

Ditto to all the above and don’t forget to ask our Mother Mary for help. She will lead you to Jesus.
