Pardon me if this post seems a little lengthy however I have a concern that is been troubling me for quite sometime even before I became Catholic and something I think effects me as a Catholic now and maybe other people who have this concern too.
I was always taught that men could be ministers in a church no matter the denomination of church, and that women could not be ministers, when I got older I understood why, and I believe that more than anything now and hope some changes could be made in other churches.
As a Catholic, I really respect Priests and other Clergy members right up to the Pope, and the style of dress helps distinguish how we address these men and value the fact we are blessed to have clergy to go when we partake in the Sacrament of Reconciliation especially, What Priests and other Clergy wear are very symbolic to me and very beneficial.
However my concern is that this has turned over in other religions like the Angelicans and Lutherans, Especially of those who are female and are ministers in those churches because of the style of dress they have acquired, and quite frankly it concerns me that one of the things that is symbolic of how we address a Catholic Priest might be misinterpreted in another religion that has this same style of dress whether or not the shirts are different colors in those religions, especially the symbol of the Roman Collar.
I am not a judgmental person and not too happy about woman being ministers however I know there is nothing I can do about that part, however I would love to see women dress differently if they are going to be ministers and not dress like Catholic Priests. I don’t want people to think I have no respect but I feel strongly about a change that might make it easier to distinguish how we address ministers of other faiths, it seems right now it is confusing enough with issues going on the Catholic Church.
I hope those of you who respond will have an open mind about what I am saying, and know I only mean well and no harm.
Thanks
