I’m a 19 year old student, and I never was a regular mass-goer, but now I feel and I want to attend masses and worship God with His Church as much as possible, but I feel like it’s pointless, this is because I keep on falling into these sins: pornography, masturbation.

I pray and pray, but is it logical to believe that I could overcome these temptations one day, in this life? The longest time that I could do without porn and masturbation is about a month, and I was in a state of trance during prayer, I’m able to go to mass every sunday, but eventually I fall again.

Now I don’t think that I should be going to mass anymore because I fear that God wouldn’t accept my worship, because I’m in a state of mortal sin, and I don’t seem to see the hope of ever repenting anytime soon, I don’t think that I should pray for guidance and strength anymore either, for I don’t seem to be following His guidance anyways, it’s not that I don’t want to, my heart is bleeding everytime I pray to Him for anything: forgiveness, thanksgiving, for family/friends etc., for He just gives it, and never asked for anything except my worship and for me to follow Him, and I seem to be mis-using the strength that He gave me, from that prayer, I don’t think that I should go to confession as soon as possible either, for I keep on repeating the same sin over and over, plus I don’t see confession as a “therapy”, I see it as a privilege, so as every sacraments, somewhere in catechism of the catholic church advices us to go to confession at least once a year, I mean what’s the point of going to confession if I keep on falling to the same sin, I know how to stop myself and for one month I’ve managed to do so, but I can’t seem to do it anymore, one moment I’m saying: “I’m so sure and I’m so firm in believing that I wouldn’t do it again, and that I don’t want to do it again, with the grace of God I can do this”, the next moment I find myself grieving and suffering over the same sins that I fought for so long, one month is not that long, haaayss, I don’t know what to say on this, It’s just mind-boggling to realize how fast things happen, T_T, I don’t want to hate myself because of these sins, but I find that another struggle to deal with, T_T, it’s just one struggle after another, I’ll never give up, but after realizing again that if I die with just ONE unrepented mortal sin, I’d go to hell, haaayss,… man… T_T.

Part of the Devils plan is to trick you into sin, and then trick you into thinking that the sin is too big to be forgiven. You need to pick yourself up, and keep trying.

I would recommend a web service call true vine on line. You can google that and find it. With this service you relinquish control of your web viewing to them, you don’t have the password and you cannot view sorid material.

My prayers go out to you, I hope that you will go back to mass, as Jesus loves you.

Dont give up! Your not the first person to have ever been here, you and people just like you have built up an addiction to those sins, you may not be big enough to overcome it, But GOD IS! God understands your problems, think about calvary, think of Christ dying on the cross, after the people had crusified him, he continued to foregive.

Now if your in mortal sin don’t recieve Eucharist, but heres a couple of things that have worked for me,

Daily mass and perpetual adoration, If you can go go.

Never feel like your worship is unworthy, that is the devil and the devil only, if you fall down get up and fight again, today is another day to step on the head of the snake and to take one more step to Jesus Christ.

Christ adores to see you come to mass, clean dirty, in sin in perfect state of grace, Christ loves you as much when you are looking at pornogrophy as when you are at mass. Remeber his love is constant and never failing.

Dont give up! and whenever you dont feel like christ is holding on anymore, rememebr you have let go but he has held his grip.

Good morning! One of the worst sins you could ever fall into is believing there is a sin God can’t forgive. The advice I give to everyone who seems to have struggles with these vices is work out. Go to the gym and do dumbbell curls until you can’t lift your arms. It’s excruciatingly difficult to masterbate without use of your hands. Go to confession, go to mass, go to class, go to the gym, make that part of your life.

Suddenly my spirit is enthused about this “Perpetual Adoration” idea, I’ll inquire about this in our parish as soon as possible, after reading a little about Perpetual Adoration in: ewtn.com/faith/teachings/euchd3.htm, I’m in high spirits all of a sudden.

THANKS for the insight, I think Perpetual adoration will work for me too, ^^, I’m getting kind of excited about this. ^^, I think joining the choir would be a good idea too.

thanks so much… 🙂

Welcome to the human race. 😃

You can’t resist solely on your own…Pray for strength.

God’s capacity for forgiveness is unimaginable…don’t underestimate it.

Practical advice…I’d not skip the Gym, but pumping iron can elevate one’s testosterone production, and make the temptation worse for some…but…one thing that NEVER fails to quash the temptation is a COLD shower. I don’t mean a cool one, a cold one. Guaranteed. 😉

Also, if you’re tempted during a certain time of day, change your routine.

Now, you also need to eliminate your access to porn. I assume that you have computer access. Get a filter. Get your roomate or someone else at your parish to put in a password so you aren’t tempted to unlock it. No filter is perfect, but you gotta start making the effort. If you have magazines (and who does nowadays, with more than one could imagine going on online!), get rid of them. Use your computer in a dorm lounge, library or in another public place to minimize the temptation. In short, make it difficult and inconvenient for yourself in any way you can to limit your access.

This can be an addiction. It’s not easy to kick alone. Our prayers are with you.

You mustn’t despair! This is just what Satan wants. We ALL struggle for the better part of our lives with such things. Your list of continuous temptations is not unusual. Every preist has heard these many times in Confession. Keep going to Confession, and ask for the priest’s counsel in breaking this pattern. Most importantly, praythat His grace will transform you so that you can learn to overcome these sins.

Most importnatly, dont stop going to Mass! It is most important that you be there. this is the highest form of worship and public prayer we have as a church. Though it is importnat that you not go to receive Communion while in a state of mortal sin, you are still obligated to go to mass. If you will listen carefully to the EUcharistic prayer you will understand why-- by this holey participation in Christ’s sacrifice for us we pray for and advance the salvation of the entire world, not just Catholics disposed to receive Communion–not just Catholics in general, even-- the whole world! As Catholics, struggling with sin as we may be, it is impoartant that we take up our part in this liturgy, which literally translates to “the work of the Church.”

One thing that really helps with this type of addictive behavior is the Rosary and the intercessions of Mary.

Go to confession frequently; God gives you a new beginning every time you do.

God loves you too,He will never forget you,nor leave you abandoned…
Yes it is a hard struggle,i once was in your postion many moon ago and i lost all my faith soon as i started not wanting to go to mass i soon was not thinking that the catholic faith is the full and true faith and it was all down hill from there,so keep going to mass, and recieving the sacrements as needed. You are not alone in your struggle He is faithful and will not forget you and together this sin will be overcome.Victory will be yours in Christ Jesus.

As you stated above you do have a desire to attend Mass - well I think that is God working in your life and all I can say is Amen.

So the first thing you should do is attend Mass at least every sunday - for this is a precept of the Catholic Church…

As long as you are in mortal sin you should refrain from the Eucharist - yet when the Eucharist is brought forth you should pray and give up all your sinful desires at that moment in time and receive the Eucharist spiritually …

The Eucharist feeds our soul just as food feeds our bodies - and although you may not have this spiritual nourishment today you can still be fed by the Liturgy of the Word which you can only find in Mass…

I would also seek out a Priest that can help you with your own spiritual direction - after all that is one of the many jobs they do on our behalf…

Eh, I don’t know about that. A perfect act of contrition is acceptable only under grave circumstances where confession is unavailable, and you’re still required to go at the earliest time after that.

Just to be safe, go to confession first and receive the sacrament of penance.

19 years old and in school…

I am 42 and trying to figure out where you may be in life is a bit difficult since things have changed since I was 19. Also I was not a Christian at 19 and practiced no religion. But even then i know that it was popular to be sexually active. I doubt things have changed much and I believe they have gotten worse. I cannot even watch the cooking channel without seeing some commercial with sexual content and it is not getting better. We are under attack in almost every facet of our lives from television and radio and internet at home to conversation and social acceptance at work and school. We have G and PG movies that teach that premarital sex is Love and that any sex (even homosexual) is Love and so the word and understanding of Love has become bastardized to something unholy. So we are in a battle daily and a battle we cannot hope to win on our own. But we have God and with the Holy Spirit we can and will overcome any evil because no evil can defeat God.

Don’t give up on quiting pornography and masturbation. And especially don’t give up on God. Instead work on a greater Faith and with this Faith tap into the graces that God offers and you will be armed to beat these evils. Remember that willpower will not do it. Remember that it will get better in time so long as you keep getting back on your feet and moving forward again. Confession is a great gift and thank God for it.

With masturbation you will eventually become adverse enough with it that you will know things in your heart and mind that let you see it’s evils and your desire for good will allow God to help you cease it and move on to something greater. Pornography is similiar… eventually you will see the evils associated with it and how it degrades soiciety and marriage and hurts all those involved. It will take time to get past these things and you must continue the race. The rewards are so great if we can finish this race and receive Heaven.

Remember that God has Divine Mercy and wants to forgive you everything. Once forgiven your sins will be forgotten and God will not see them. This is Jesus’ gift to us and so do not reject His gift which He suffered and die for. Commit yourself to not sin again and do confession.

I would add to make your home a home for Angels as well. Remove anyhting that can be construed as evil and surround yourself with things that remind you of God. A crucufix on the wall. Prayer cards at the PC. Have a priest bless your home. There are so many things you can do to make your home a home for Angels. It is God’s Angels that help us in our battles with evil so make use of them.

My prayers go out for you and all that struggle with these temptations.

Tape a picture of Our Lady to the top corner of your computer. And start going to mass!

I’m praying for you.

My confessor once told me " the devil will tell you anything to get YOU to tell YOURSELF that you are no good, and that God doesnt love you either!"—He then told me" if it were not for Christ’s Love for us and the supernatural REAL graces the sacraments give us, we would all be lost to sin" Look around yourself, see the way 99% of people “live” their lives… Keep fighting the good fight. Go to Mass and keep going to confession, it will get easier! Your confessor can help you understand habitual sin{ and the gravityof your actions} involved in your case} and how to learn to avoid it—you might even ask him–he will understand. peace

Every trip begins with a step. Start saying the rosary, start going to Sunday mass, weekly mass, adoration. Eventually your love of Jesus and desire for the Eucharist will be even stronger than your desire for Pornography and masturbation.

You will have a blessing many Catholics take for granted. They can (or at least think they can) receive the Eucharist, so it becomes less and less important to them. They take it for granted. You, on the other hand, after falling in love with Jesus, will not take it for granted when you finally can receive.

To be honest, I am speaking from a slightly different point of view. You can receive as soon as you have a good confession. My point of view is from a fallen away Catholic who can not receive absolution due to an illicit marriage. I support the Churches position on that for the most part, because I have seen how being told to wait has strengthens my faith.

Wow. God didn’t come to save the righteous. He came to save sinners.
