So. . . commited mortal sins, Wasnt able to get to confession this evening, sign said there was a community meeting on so no confessions today. Its late here in the evening, pouring rain. What do I do? If I make a perfect act of contrition and die before the night is over and a new day begins…am I danger of going to Hell?

Am I being scrupolous?

Pray an Act of Contrition – no way to know if it’s perfect or not. Ask the Lord to help you find the Opportunity for confession tomorrow, and then rest in his mercy and sleep.

Is there another parish you could call? Could you call your parish and see if the pastor could still meet with you?

If you truly aren’t able to confess today, you could make an Act of Contrition and then go as soon as possible, but you might not be in that situation. I know I don’t like having to set up appointments and prefer using the posted times, but if you are really concerned I would go ahead and try to schedule.

Thanks for your replies. Best bet is to go first thing in the morning.

True about the act of contrition, never know whether it’s perfect or not.

God bless

If you have repented and long to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, there is NO WAY that our infinitely merciful God could deny you salvation.

That being said: we should never have presumption of salvation. Nor, though, we should despair of salvation. We must find a healthy equilibrium, even when we find ourselves in a state of mortal sin.
