Not being able to take Communion is killing me

Why is it killing you, though? Ask yourself this deeply and honestly. If you find a holy answer, then just try to get the ball rolling faster. RCIA is not compulsory if your parish considers you educated enough in the Faith. I definitely recommend The Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church to all adult newcomers.
It’s killing me because I want to receive the Lord in the Eucharist.

Secondly, I believe it can only draw me closer to him.

I have the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

But seriously, I’m coping more than I was a couple of months ago. I’ll be fine.

May I recommend, if it hasn’t already been suggested, for you to find out when they have Adoration in our Church and go spend some quite time before the Eucharist. I remember a priest long time ago talking about this gentleman that would go all the time to Adoration and would sit in the back pew. Just sitting there staring at our Lord in the Eucharist. The priest asked him why he just sat there. He replied, “I’m not just sitting here. I’m looking at Jesus, and He is looking at me. I’m loving Jesus, and He is loving me.” Just go and worship Our Lord in awe. Think about how awesome He is. This God who can hold the universe in the palm of His hand loves us so, so so, much that He comes down to us in the Eucharist. It’s mind boggling that a tiny piece of bread now turned into the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of our God that we can worship and love and that He sacrificed Himself for us. TRULY AWESOME!!! I guarantee you, once you come into the Church, and receive Him you will look back and thank God for the wait and that it was allllll worth every second of waiting.

God Bless You.
Thanks for the encouragement. 🙂

Something to remember is that this may not be completely up to your pastor as confirmation is a bishops sacrament and required for Eucharist in adults.

And the scene won’t go away for one who won’t conform. The long line of the those who found favor with Christ will cause one to agonize and bring on just has intense a feeling when one needs to confess. Good incentive to remain in friendship with God, and it works. 😊

Some encouragement please.

Could be a ploy of Satan, but I’m getting frustrated/discouraged.

Jesus is waiting with you, and He is looking just as much forward to your First Holy Communion as you are.

But He doesn’t want you to rush it - there are many things that He wants to teach you, first - so listen to those whom He has placed in your life, for just this reason - and be patient with them when sometimes they make mistakes.

Could you bring this up in your meetings with a priest? I’m sure he could help you. Also pray for patience. It hasn’t been that long since you started on this journey and I think it is good to take it slowly. Make sure you solve whatever issues you might still have regarding the Catholic doctrine and feel at peace about the step you are taking. Maybe you can turn this waiting into a sacrifice, offer it up for some intention. That always helps me deal with something difficfult.

Any idea how long until you can take Communion?

I am praying for patience. I know I tend to be impatient.

I don’t know. I do know I haven’t been receiving formal instruction for that long and acting impatient is not going to help.

At mass yesterday, I sensed something akin to laughter. It’s like someone was saying, “It ain’t gonna happen.”

I guess that’s what you call a spiritual attack.

True Light,

Consider it a great blessing that the Lord has given you this great desire to receive Him.

Offer up your longing for all those who need to have that longing, and instead ignore Him in the Blessed Sacrament.

God bless you!

Thank you.
You are not in this alone…my husband…who was baptized Catholic…raised in a Christian home and knew a lot about the bible and Catholicism had to wait 15 months.

He is perhaps one of the most impatient people I know…if he can make it…you can!

BTW…he was so moved when it was finally time…and said it was well worth the wait!

Sounds like it. Just ignore it. He is the father of lies after all.

It kills me when I cannot receive him for whatever reason on one Sunday. It definitely kills me…

Thanks Annabelle and Dorothy.

It’s becoming clearer to me now.

Last night I was at a first Friday vigil and I was feeling physically horrible while in church.

Then I wake up this morning and was feeling sort of depressed about the whole communion thing.

It means something good is on the horizon and this is the evil’s one last chance at sabotaging everything.

Isaiah 54

1 Shout for joy, barren one who has borne no children! Break into cries and shouts of joy, you who were never in labour! For the children of the forsaken one are more in number than the children of the wedded wife, says Yahweh.

2 Widen the space of your tent, extend the curtains of your home, do not hold back! Lengthen your ropes, make your tent-pegs firm,

3 for you will burst out to right and to left, your race will dispossess the nations and repopulate deserted towns.

4 Do not fear, you will not be put to shame again, do not worry, you will not be disgraced again; for you will forget the shame of your youth and no longer remember the dishonour of your widowhood.

5 For your Creator is your husband, Yahweh Sabaoth is his name, the Holy One of Israel is your redeemer, he is called God of the whole world.

6 Yes, Yahweh has called you back like a forsaken, grief-stricken wife, like the repudiated wife of his youth, says your God.

7 I did forsake you for a brief moment, but in great compassion I shall take you back.

8 In a flood of anger, for a moment I hid my face from you. But in everlasting love I have taken pity on you, says Yahweh, your redeemer.

9 For me it will be as in the days of Noah when I swore that Noah’s waters should never flood the world again. So now I swear never to be angry with you and never to rebuke you again.

10 For the mountains may go away and the hills may totter, but my faithful love will never leave you, my covenant of peace will never totter, says Yahweh who takes pity on you.

11 Unhappy creature, storm-tossed, unpitied, look, I shall lay your stones on agates and your foundations on sapphires.

12 I shall make your battlements rubies, your gateways firestone and your entire wall precious stones.

13 All your children will be taught by Yahweh and great will be your children’s prosperity.

14 In saving justice you will be made firm, free from oppression: you will have nothing to fear; free from terror: it will not approach you.

15 Should anyone attack you, that will not be my doing, and whoever does attack you, for your sake will fall.

16 I created the smith who blows on the charcoal-fire to produce a weapon for his use; I also created the destroyer to ruin it.

17 No weapon forged against you will succeed. Any voice raised against you in court you will refute. Such is the lot of the servants of Yahweh, the saving justice I assure them, declares Yahweh.

Good Day Friend; looking back in my own life as a young kid barely in my teens I sometimes wish in moments of spiritual dryness while attending Holy Mass in Church I could feel the great wondrous expectancy I felt on the day of my First Communion.
Perhaps its good to humble my own adulthood and self-assurances and think once again like a young kid again on that very first day of my Holy Communion. It was a happy day for me. I think all Catholics need a good splash of enlightenment and serious reflection before walking up to receive Holy Communion. Sometimes I find that this Homily by Pope John Paul II gives me a spiritual boost. vatican.va/holy_father/john_paul_ii/homilies/1979/documents/hf_jp-ii_hom_19790614_prima-comunione_en.html

I have always loved verse 17. I like it in the Kings James, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.” 🙂

I hope years from now, I will be able to look back and remember my days of longing.

I think that’s a splendid idea. Thanks for the link. I learned so much!
Quite welcome. 🙂

Another way to look at it is that the waiting is forming a solid foundation in obedience to Holy Mother Church. God will look favorably on you for that.
(long thread, someone may have mentioned that already)

I was in RCIA last fall, and was received at the Easter vigil, 2011. I too was impatient to receive the Eucharist, but time really flew by. Even with Easter being so late in April, when it was finally time, I could hardly believe it.

It helped me to not watch other people moving through the line, or who might be sitting down around me. I focused on the altar and how someday it would be my turn to share in the Lord’s Supper. (I would sit on the outside of a pew so that I could easily let people in when they returned after receiving.) Everyone knew I was a catechumen, so maybe they could empathize with me.

There are several people in the parish whose spouses are not Catholic but attend Mass, so they are always seated during Communion time anyway.

Now that I am able to take communion, I am always surprised that I can go up and be like everyone else.
