Not comfortable on Facebook

That’s maybe what I’ll do Juliane, I’ve liked many Catholic groups, and the most I’ve done is to like or share onto my wall… I should really state my opinion more often.

I’ve unfriended quite a few people due to their crude comments, sometimes just ignoring them doesn’t cut it. I don’t do crude. Controversial I can ignore as long as I’m not being bombarded, but crude has no place on my newsfeed.

I also have been dropped by a few people. I sometimes wonder if some of them have put my statuses on ignore because I don’t hear anything from them. LOL! I suspect one of my sisters in law did that because I will put something on my status, or share a funny little picture sometimes, then one of my kids will share it on their walls, after which my sis in law will make a comment. Not a one time occurence, this. I suppose I’ve become too much of a “Jesus Freak” for her but she’s too polite to drop me, afterall we’re REAL family lol!

I kind of got carried away with friending people of like political mind…I ended up with nearly 1600 “friends!” LOL But a lot of those friends had at least 5,000 of their own. We were doing some serious networking…But then I realized that really, only about 10% of that number ever even liked my posts or visited my wall to comment. Then there were, as you say, the crude and rude ones. Or the ones who foamed at the mouth about Ron Paul. They had to go. Now I have about 160 and could still cull quite a few out. At least I’m not spending all day chatting with people any more!

😛

My facebook is like a personalized Catholic newspaper. I receive my favorite Catholic news articles and bloggers. Most of my friends are my Catholic friends I have connected with over the years and choose to keep up with for regular fellowship. Indecent dress and bikinis never come across in my newsfeed. The ads in the sidebar only come up based on your previous websearches. Mine is so very tweaked with Catholic stores, followed by whatever I’m shopping online for at the time.
Mine, too! 🙂 I get a lot of homeschooling ads, along with those from Catholic retailers. I like my facebook account and enjoy reading the daily updates from various Catholic news sources and reading things posted by family, friends, fellow Catholic homeschooling moms, Catholic authors and musicians. I would say it’s what you make of it.

I just did a cull last week, I’m down to 102 ‘friends’ now… I would cull a few more off, but I wouldn’t dare for fear of a real life tongue lashing 😉 . Some others I would cull but I like to play one social game and so I’m using them for my Sims game 😃

I actually made some friends through games I have since stopped playing, but I enjoy the people themselves… good, wholesome people, but like I said, they’re not catholic voices… at least they acknowledge my presence LOL!

After I wrote that post about the “Praise God” posts and the many likes that are received by them, I went back to my FB and someone had posted simply The gospel of John. I thought to myself… Huh??? That’s it? There was a like for that LOL.

Oh well I guess incomplete sentences thrill people. Maybe I should try it???

Hi there,
I gave up facebook for Lent. The first couple days it was hard not to go “peek” at what everyone was saying, I have to say though, I am happier and more productive without it. I was on it because I have a pretty lonely existence (apart from talking to my husband on the phone, being with the kids and attending church activities)…but I can understand your reservations…

I disabled my account a couple months ago and I have no desire to go back.

Aside from the anti-Catholic & political content, gossip and the nasty, two-faced behavior, the biggest problem I’ve had with it recently is that, at least with a lot of people I know, it could easily be renamed Drunkbook, as it seems like the main point for a lot of people on there is to let everyone know what and how much they’re drinking.

I confess I have been, for years, a skeptic concerning Facebook and similar networking websites, and avoiding it like the plague (I’m on LinkedIn and I love it, though). However, my parents (and some CAFers on a previous thread), aware of my loneliness problems, have recently mentioned that I should join Facebook in order to be more “on the market” (for friendships and possible courtship).

And so I did. However, after five minutes of utilization, and some half an hour of prayer, I’ve decided to immediately cancel my account. Am I the only one to feel tremendously uncomfortable on Facebook? I cannot stand all those women in bikini or indecent dress. No doubt I’m probably weaker in this point than the average guy, but I still wonder how can you stand it.

Anyone with similar feelings/experiences?
Facebook isn’t a way to meet new people and find people to date. Its a way to stay connected with friends and family who are far away. I wouldn’t want strangers having access to my facebook profile, wall and what not.

I know what yoy mean, a relative kept voting on some “best body” app and i constantly had pictures of naked or semi-nakedvwomen in my news feed. I did block it, but that was after already being exposed to the indecency. i’m a woman and it still stirs me the wrong way, so yes, do avoid if you think it will lead you to sin.
