Were you this vocal when there were just as hateful and violent demonstrations against Obama? Or Bush? Or Clinton? And did you consider those disturbing symbols as representative of the entire party and ideals? I’ve been active on this forum for a long time and I don’t recall anyone mentioning any of the multitude of the very real and very life-like effigies of President Obama being lynched.

Or should the right wing be demonized for Loughner opening fire on Congresswoman Gifford? Or Kaczynski setting off bombs, and McVeigh and Nichols blowing up Oklahoma City Federal Building? How about the numerous threats and plots to assassinate President Obama?

How ghoulish to use this tragedy to bang your political drum.
SUBSTITUTE "vehement " for hateful and YES 👍

It’s objective not personal!

You blissfully ignore the build up to the event.

How ghoulish of you.

bold: You seriously going to place the race card with Obama? I’m not even a Trump supporter and your comparison is wack. But it seems you got a soft spot for Obama anyways. Here’s a fact: the media loved Obama. Here’s another fact: the amount of animosity towards Obama has no comparison to the amount of berserk activity once Trump was elected has been in office. But you know, go ahead and paint Obama as some sort of victim. Afterall I cried with joy when he was nominated in 2008, so you might pull my heartstrings.
And Loughner was insane. But his writings and media diet was almost exclusively conservative.
This is such a fail.

As for the OP: Yea, not totally surprised as well. Anyone who denies the batsh_t leftist influence is plain delusional.

I think a bigger crime happened when the Gove. closed the doors of most mental hospitals to save money. Or we could become like a few other countries and take away self defense in any form. I am not for gun violence, but for better care for people with emotional problems. I could go on, but I won’t. Peace.
Totally agree with this.
Let’s pray a rosary for peace in our country.

This isn’t about what America has become, it is how the media paints it. For some, Politics is god. I have zero political party affiliation. Even if the shooter is shown to hate this person, party or group, shooting anyone shows signs of mental instability. Shooting someone in a clear self-defense situation is something else. A study of shootings in general in the US shows that most victims know each other, and the motivation is usually about something that has nothing to do with politics or political figures.

America has fractured over the last 40 years and people live in different versions of it. I’ve never owned or fired a gun. Although I have been carjacked at gunpoint, meaning a gun was put to my head.

The media and personal choices means I don’t live in the America some people live in. I don’t have to. I do vote but I’m not committed to any party.

:sad_yes:

Who had no problem getting a gun, as easily (apparently) as picking up a loaf of bread at the supermarket. This tragedy could have been avoided had IL or/and VA had decent firearm legislation, no? Enough is enough - at what point will people stop obsessing over the stupid Second Amendment? This guy wasn’t in any well-regulated militia.
I don’t know that there has been any information released as to where he obtained his weapons. But as to your comment, Illinois has some of the toughest gun laws in the country.

And as to your sniping at the 2nd Amendment, had some of the players been armed, this likely would have ended sooner than it did. And had the rest of the group not been fortunate enough to have Congressman Scalise there, then there would have been no police to counter attack, and the men who rant to the first base dugout would have been in a place where they would have had no escape whatsoever (the shooter was moving toward that dugout) and we would have had a wholesale slaughter. The 2nd Amendment is in place to allow those other congressmen and other players to arm themselves to protect against such a shooter.

Who, exactly, do you think is going to protect someone from such a criminal when there are no police around?

The thing that bugged me was the NPR report: They interviewed someone who said
“He wasn’t a violent guy! He got into some fights with other men, but he wasn’t violent!”
fighting=violence people. :mad:
You expected NPR to go try to dig out someone who would say the guy was nuts?

Not surprised at all. College students shut down their campus because a white professor refused to leave for a “day of absence”. Then there’s the whole deal with Kathy Griffin and Shakespeare in the Park. Celebrities saying that they have thought about blowing up the White House. Then that music video where a clown dressed like Trump was shot. Neighborhoods get torn apart and cars torched whenever a minority is involved in an officer involved shooting (regardless of actual guilt, it seems). I could go on.

I’m surprised something like this didn’t happen earlier. I will be surprised if things don’t get a whole lot worse. I think we might get into martial law territory (or close to it) within a few years if people don’t learn to control themselves.
You missed a few: the riots in Berkeley and Portland by the “resistance”.
