Hello everyone!!

I am a Catholic Convert, as of Easter last year 😃 before that I was a member of the Church of England. For the first time in years, I went to Sunday Service at the Anglican Church last weekend with a dear friend and his mother, and have been invited back to Service tomorrow with the same friends. I can also go to Mass, that’s not a problem.

I kept thinking, this is still the house of the Lord and I am still worshipping Him, but I just did not feel comfortable in the Protestant church…even to the point of feeling disloyal. Does that sound wrong or crazy? Has anyone else felt like that??

God bless x x x x

God is everywhere, but your senses are telling you The DIFFERENCE, in the ‘houses’!

I was received into the Church almost a year ago. I have not gone to a service in any other church since then, actually since several months before that. The last time I went, I thought I would climb the walls! I wondered how on earth I had gone to that church before and listened to 40-minute sermons of somebody’s opinion-interpretation of the Bible for so long. I have no intention of ever going again, unless it were for a wedding or something like that. I think it is perfectly normal to feel that way. Another thing to keep in mind is that you are exposing yourself to some false teachings. Do your friends reciprocate by attending Catholic Mass with you?

No you are not crazy and you certainly were not “disloyal”.
As one said earlier, God has given you “discernment” of the differences between the churches. In this you are blessed.
Perhaps you could share with your friend and her mother, how much more fulfilled you feel in the Catholic Church and invite them to attend mass with you.
With the wonderful outreach between the Catholic Church and Anglican communions recently you may well be teh instrument that the Holy Spirit wishes to use to help bring others into the Church from Anglicanism.

Peace
James

My wife’s Baptist, so I sometimes go to her church. Like you, I’m a convert from the Protestant Church.

I’m always a bit wary, partly because in my case my original Protesant pastor, a wise if discouraging man, predicted I’d become Catholic. However he also said “I think you might have trouble with the Baptists. They’re very much aware of being ‘Baptists’, much more so than Presbyterians are for example”. At that time I was Presbyterian, but I think I was going out with my future Baptist wife. We’d been married about four or five years when I converted. So far she hasn’t attended my church once, except for a Carols night, although she doesn’t really complain either.

Since I know how accurate he was with his predictions, while I have so far not had much trouble with the Baptists, it’s probably only a matter of time before a more serious dog fight breaks out. Who, where, when, what, how and why I don’t know. Yet.

So I’m always wary, and half expecting something to happen. I don’t mind longer sermons (up to about 20 minutes), provided they’re accurate, informative and well presented. In fact one of my complaints is the relatively weak nature of the Catholic homilies I’ve experienced, with a few exceptions. My original pastor knew how to preach, and some Protestants are good preachers.

I also appreciate the effort they put into the music ministry.

In a nutshell, I don’t feel disloyal simply because I’ve gone to a Protesant church, but I am wary.

Thank you so very much, dear friends. 🙂 You know, I missed (to the point of feeling resentful) the presence of the Blessed Mother, and the way the Lord’s Prayer was recited. It’s funny, my friend is Godfather to my nine year old (who was baptized in 2006) and who was received into our Church last Easter with me. It’s difficult to explain to him how I feel. He takes his role as godfather very seriously and asked us to go to his church ‘for a change’. I have felt uneasy about this since last week and it feels good to share it here.

I was brought up Church of England and attended C of E school, but in my heart I was always Catholic.
