Not feeling compassion or mercy

Here is a good example:

I always work closing shifts on Sunday and it is my availability. Yet this morning I was awakened by a manager telling me I should have been there 20 minutes ago. Apparently someone switched my schedule.

I had to take a 1.5hr lunch to get to a nearby church to attend Mass.

It’s just strange.

Granted, this seems to be a minor mishap, but it is happening only in a way that affects my religious life. No one has any idea who “changed” the schedule.

A couple months ago, however, I just started feeling…angry I guess is the word. A lot of people at work are reaching a certain level of relationship where I have to physically leave to get them to leave me alone. I think the main problem is that I’ve been “outed” at work. All the young adults know I am an anti-abortion, married Catholic. This was my fault, as I told a couple people about it when they asked me for help, so now naturally everyone knows.

Anyways, this means that even though I never bring up a non-work topic, never discuss my personal life, etc, 10-15 times a DAY I am approached by others. The sickness and hurt in their life is starting to tear me down and I am unsure what steps to take to stop it. It’s like they are dragging me down.

Some are obviously doing it with an agenda, such as to “show me up” or present a “question” really meant to make me look cruel or ridiculous.

Others are confiding in me about really dark, painful secrets or asking me for advice.

I went to talk to the manager of HR about how to make at least the malicious people leave me alone and spent the next hour consoling her because she just had a miscarriage.

This change in my work is very dramatic and sudden. I have no idea what happened but I am so worn out. A word of advice or even just prayers would really help. I think I have to move on, which is sad as this job is very nice.
FWIW - This reminds me of the wedding at Cana…I don’t think that Mary “outed” Jesus but she did prompt his first public miracle. I think of that as a major step toward Calvary.

Also, the Pharisee’s were always trying to trip Jesus up. Perhaps meditating on these scriptures will give you strength.

I think Christians face rather unfair scrutiny in many situations, we are expected to be perfect and never have a bad day and be unfailingly sympathetic even when the situation doesn’t warrant it. We want to be a good witness but what others think that is may not be even close to what even possible morally, ethically, or humanly.

I second the documentation. It can give you perspective and show patterns of unfair treatment and being dumped on as well as being a way of purging it.

Will pray, too.

I keep copies (and originals when available) on everything I do there, and I also have a performance tracker for maintaining straight information, such as who said what.

I just wish I could “see” what caused all of this.
