Hello…I have a question.

I went to a mass yesturday and I got a bit disctracted. I don’t think I was playing a full attention at many points and I completelly forgot to ask for forgivness of all my venial sins before recieving the eucharist. I don’t even remember the confiteor (meaning I was probably day dreaming :o). So after I kneeled down to pray (after consuming the eucharist), with horror I realized that I forgot to do that. I did that as soon as I remembered it but not before that.

So, while I can’t think of any venial sin I commited that day I’m pretty sure I commited them. In other words I didn’t recieve the eucharist in the state of grace? Have I commited a mortal sin and do I need to go to confession as soon as possible? I normally woudn’t go because I went this Saturday.

I know that mortal sin has 3 criteria, which I don’t believe I fulfulled. I didn’t do it intentionally nor knowingly. But I still want to make sure I’m fine.

What do you think?

Chill out there!

Receiving the Eucharist in a ‘state of grace’ simply means you need to be free of mortal sin, not free of all sin. So even if you have venial sin on your soul you can still receive.

You don’t stricty speaking need to make a separate Penitential rite or a separate Act of Contrition before receiving Communion - the act of reception in itself absolves you of your venial sins.

My dear I think you are being too hard on yourself.
What you did was not intentional and so would not incur a sin, plus you rectified it immediately upon realization.

But if you still have some concern, mention it to your confessor next time you go to confession.

there is no sin involved in having your mind wander at Mass. There is no way to sin through forgetfullness in any case.

You’re OK!

One has to be in the State of Grace to Receive Holy Communion, ans you were just being human! I can’t see where any sin was really committed. I may be wrong. None of us are perfect! God does not expect us to be.

We have a Loving and Merciful God!

I also think you are being way too hard on yourself!

I think you must have one strict conscience!

If you still have a concern, then I suggest as other have done to take it up with the Priest the next time you go to Confession!
