Not knowing God

I have come to the conclusion that we cannot know God on a personal level. Many people talk of a personal relationship with God, and this seems impossible to me. why? We cannot know God on a personal level if He does not communicate with us on a personal level. No matter how many rosaries we pray, no matter how much we read the bible, attend mass, etc., if God does not communicate with us, we cannot get to know Him. some people say that they have communicated with God, and I will have to ask, how do you know it is God? it is impossible to determine the exact origin of any thoughts, feelings, personal revelations, etc. do they come from God, ourselves, or somewhere else? we cannot know, because God has not given us any sure way of knowing. it seems our church knows this also, because if we look at the “approval” of Marian apparitions, we can see that the approval is only stating that the apparition does not conflict with church teaching. as a matter of fact, we are not REQUIRED to believe in ANY personal revelation, including Marian apparitions. so it seems we are alone, adrift in an empty sea, and Our Father is just a cold, unavailable dad who is too busy with other things to bother with us.

Dang71 my husband has been Catholic since 1997. He has told me he has never felt the presence of God, yet he still believes. He knows God through scripture, through the church. God is not unavailable to my husband. Since coming into the church my husband has been healed of his battle with alcoholism, our marriage has grown stronger and stronger, he has overcome his battle with depression, everytime my husband has been laid off in this awful Michigan economy a better job has become available to him. It doesn’t mean there haven’t been struggles but God is available through the people and circumstances of our lives.

All good comes from God. We are not alone, we have the church as our guide. If we feel God is speaking to us but are not sure then we look to the church -does what we feel God is telling us go against anything the church teaches? If it does than it is not from God. We can seek guidance from a holy priest if we are still uncertain.

God is not an angry God ready to zap if we chose wrongly with the best of intentions. God is merciful and kind. He knows our hearts better than we do. Be not afraid my friend.
