Hello!

Asking on behalf of a friend, who is a sponsor of a candidate for confirmation.

My friend is a sponsor, but does not feel her candidate is ready for confirmation. The candidate does not seem to care about church teaching, and seems to be just in it for the title of “Catholic” if you know what I mean.

For example, she has told the candidate multiple times not to receive the Eucharist in mortal sin but she just doesn’t seem to care. There have been other things like this, but she cannot tell me without revealing the candidates sins.

She was at the Rite of Election, and had to basically give her approval of the candidate, but felt she was lying the whole time about the candidate being ready for confirmation.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Your friend should not have lied. Your friend should speak to the director of RCIA about their concerns.

I agree, we just set up a meeting time with the RCIA director.

I would meet with the priest of the parish that she is getting confirmed at and express these concerns to him. For one, It would be sacrilege to be confirmed with mortal sins on the soul. In addition, it’s rather troublesome that her attitude is so poor. Hopefully the priest will be able to advise you.
