Not sure about confirmation...

The choice that lies before you now is whether to be a good Catholic, or a bad Catholic. I hope that you will choose to be a good Catholic. 🙂

Lot’s of good points here. Thank you all, I believe I know what I have to do now. 🙂 I’m going through with Confirmation and trusting the chruch and God. I do have an inner belief that this is right, I just wish I could express that to my friends without offending them or them getting so defensive…😦

If they are upset that you want to live your Catholic faith in an authentic and real way, then they aren’t really your friends, are they? I certainly wouldn’t worry about the opinions of people who spent their time with me trying to undermine my Catholic faith - in fact, I’d probably just quit hanging around with them. 😉

Well, I really care about them so I can’t just stop hanging out with them. I just need to find a balance.:yup:

Maybe you can help them to appreciate the good things about the Catholic faith, and teach them the truth about it, especially about Mary. 🙂

Yes, you are making a profession of faith, as you are over the age of seven and it is required in the Latin Church.

In the Byzantine Church, which is just as Catholic as the Latin Church (AKA Roman Catholic), they confirm at baptism. It is called chrismation. They also give the babies their First Communion, sometimes on the same day as their baptism. None of those babies knows much of anything about their faith at that point. They will learn.

I want you to think about the action of the Holy Spirit in this matter. He is coming to you through the actions of the bishop, when he lays hands on you, and says that he, the bishop, confirms you. You aren’t doing the confirming. The bishop is.

If you are confirmed, and you decide that being Catholic isn’t for you when you no longer live at home and don’t have to do all that stuff your mom makes you do because she is bringing you up, no human being is going to come chasing after you with a butterfly net and catch you, saying, “Nope! Back to the Catholic Church you go!” should you decide to become a buddist or bapitst or free-range evangelical in your later years.

If you decide to remain Catholic, I can guarantee if you open yourself up to the Holy Spirit, and use those gifts you get at your confirmation, you will definitely be graced.

I think you are doing the right thing and I will say a prayer for you, asking God to strengthen you in your faith, especially around your friends.

Thank you. 🙂 I did pull off quite a good point today about the Eucharist, with some help from the teacher of the Bible club who used to be Catholic. ^.^ I was very happy to have something to say instead of staying quiet due to lack of knowledge. This website has helped me understand things a lot better.

It’s with my school, it’s not really ‘non-Catholic’ We just get together and discuss the bible, it’s not dedicated to either side. We can go and talk about things that have inspired us or whatever we want to discuss. There’s only about 4 or 5 of us talking.

No one talked to me with the intention of trying to pull me away from the Catholic faith or being confirmed. I just listened to peoples concerns and tried to talk about them, I just didn’t have any defense and I completely questioned the Chatholic church as a whole because they had better proof against something the church stood for and I never heard the reason why we even stood for it. This is the second time I’ve been confused with the church, so I’m handling it a lot better than before, so the people I do this Bible study with weren’t the cause of my overall questioning and doubts. I’m far away from the one who started it all.

Really, I don’t want to just learn one side. I know people can delude themselves and I have done that before with other things, I don’t want this to be like that. I want to try and see all the sides as far as Christians go. I want to make sure the belief I go with is because of my personal opinion and not some other factor. It’s probably more than I can take on, but I’m going for it anyway. It’s like I don’t want a biased opinion, I want to find what’s right. :o

Jesus started the Catholic Church, and promised that it can never teach anything incorrectly. We can rely on His promise. 🙂

Other Christian religions were started much, much later, by human beings who didn’t have any promises to make - in fact, they were quite emphatic about the reality that they cannot teach infallibly.

Yeah, I’ve heard that a lot. I’ve also heard the Catholic faith was started in Rome? or something…I don’t know, I’ve seen the most proof that the Catholic faith is the root of all the other Christian faith, I’d like to see a list of the ‘popes’ from Peter to…it’s Benedict now right? I don’t remember what number…

Today, in the Bible club we were talking about a Pope who on his death bed made a prophecy and listed a really long list of popes to come and ended with one who was supposedly going to be working with the anti christ? I guess this list of popes is in the…oh, I forgot the word, it’s like the building where the Pope lives? Well, so far, every name has been accurate with the list, the person who brought it up was going to do some more research on it this week since we didn’t have very many details, but that’s the main thing that he’s against the church with, that kinda scared him he said. I’ll have more info about that next week, but it was the first I’ve ever heard of that.

oops, gotta go, choir practice…I had more to say in the first paragraph though…

HERE is the list.

I think it’s a myth. I have heard of something called “the prophecies of Malechi” but Malechi wasn’t a Pope, and nobody can seem to find his list of future Popes. 🤷

If such a list existed, and if anyone believed in it, would we bother with Papal elections? Why not just appoint the guy who’s next on the list? 😉

There is also a superstition that there can only be the number of Popes as there are spaces for their portraits in the Vatican library. I guess there are only three spots left on that particular wall. But nobody really believes that one, either.

I wonder if my friend will find anything about it then. He got that information from his grandmother who is very Catholic…I’m interested in what he’ll come up with.

We trust most “gut” feelings and this is your time.The Bible is your confidence that it is the word of God.We all MUST realize that our faith will ALWAYS be tested sometimes its Father,evil or OURSELVES and our inability to accept this test is why were sinners.
