Really sorry about this. But before confessing my sins I’m not sure if me and the priest said or did the sign of the cross. Is the confession still valid? It was an honest confession.

If the priest gave you absolution, that’s all that counts. It was valid.

See a priest or spiritual director for help with your scruples. Posting here won’t help you.

Valid. What’s really essential is your repentance and the absolution spoken by the priest.

The sign of the cross was given to you when you were baptized in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
It is good to recall that sign when you go to a “second baptism,” as reconciliation was sometimes known. But you do not need it, as you always have the gift from your baptism.

As long as you did it, and the vertical motion was precisely 17.875 inches tall and the horizontal was 15.625 inches wide, you should be ok. Otherwise, well, it could be problematic. I kid! I kid!

The sign of the cross is symbolic and not necessary, but very nice to do so. Your good to go. What irks me is when sports players take to the field or courts and make the sign of the cross and you pretty well know it is meant more for show. If it were not they would have done their ‘prayers’ in the locker room rather than in front of thousands of spectators. Pharisees anyone? Agree or not, in my opinion.

No, after Vatican II, those measurements were converted to an equation:

X= πh= 2π*v

That way, you solve for X every time you cross yourself.

Well there ya go. Mine were the Latin measurements, and thus more holy. 😂

In the Eastern churches, you solve with differential calculus equations on an xyz axis…

Indeed, but if you see it in a mirror, it’s the same as the RCC’s.

It is valid. However, you can do the sign of the cross before you start as you kneel down (if it is a kneeling down Confession).

It was intended to promote active participation. The faithful must solve for x before confessing…

I’ve been saying for years they need to add a math section to CCD.

Michael, you have go to talk to someone about your scrupulosity. This is not healthy for you. Please speak to someone. I say this with complete charity and concern. Talk to your pastor. Don’t put it off any longer.

Please be careful with such jokes. There are a lot of scrupulous people in these forums. They pick up on things like that and ignore the kidding part.

Surely anyone would understand that what @EricF said was done so in the spirit of innocent humor. If not, then the problem lies not with him but the one choosing to be offended. I’d hate to see a CAF where laughter is not allowed. For much joy is shared through a little laughter.

It’s all about confessions your sins, being sorry, asking forgiveness and being contrite.
After that, you receive absolvement from the priest.
We are blessed to have confession.
