Problem I have with this is the way he does his commentary and the emphasis.

Rather than letting the reader read the actual text and form an opinion independent of what Fr Z thinks, he places his comments within the document and places his emphasis within it so that the reader can not truly form their own opinion outside of Fr Z’s.

I think you’re confusing his blog with a news website. Even then, good luck getting unbiased reporting.

Fr. Z always has a link to the original article. If you don’t want his commentary, just click on his link. It’s not that hard–or do you really just want something to complain about?

Not at all. I am pointing out what I do not like about his blog and why I do not go there for information.

Well if you’re wanting articles without any sort of commentary, a blog is not the place to look.

Commentary is find. Why not put it after posting the article? Why put it in the article?

Most blogs that I read do post the articles first, followed by the commentary. I agree with you on this point.

He overdoes it with the red pen thing, and I wish he were a harder line “traditionalist,” but he’s clearly sincere about his enthusiasm for the TLM and better liturgy, and I think sincere in his zeal and (fallible) interpretations of church law.

That post was fantastic. Just shows you how far society has spiraled downward. True, but sad indeed.

When professors grade papers, while they may write summary comments at the end, they also…obviously…annotate the paper throughout. That’s so you can actually connect the comment with what triggered the comment. Otherwise the commentator would have to say “On page 1, line 20, note”…

…in any case, if you don’t like Father Z.'s style, don’t read him. It’s really very simple.
